Don’t miss out on the MTHS Fall Play - The Outsiders! Tickets on sale now!

Based on the classic novel by S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders is a poignant and heroic story about class, broken homes, protecting one's turf, and of belonging, friendship, and maintaining hope in the face of struggle, a powerful reminder of what young people encounter. It's a searing story of real kids of every sort, from destitute outlaws, gas station workers, and high school dropouts (the Greasers), to the college-bound, have-it-made rich kids (the Socs) in tough situations with consequences seen through the eyes of young Ponyboy. As these young people try to find themselves and each other, the sadness of sophistication begins to reach them. A brawl between the two gangs ends in disaster and sets off a series of events that will change their lives. While some Greasers try to achieve redemption, others meet tragic ends.

The Outsiders will be performed at the Kenneth H. Maurer Performing Arts Center from September 17-20, 2026. Performances begin at 7 PM on the 17th, 18th, and 19th and 2 PM on the 20th. Tickets are on sale now and will be available through the online MTHS Box Office: https://mthstheatredept.ludus.com/

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens 60 & older, $5 for students 8th grade & younger, and all MTHS Students with a school ID are free.

THANK YOU to everyone who attended our first Theatre Camp last week!

Students who attended learned about characterization, auditioning, directing, singing, dancing, lighting, costuming, set design, and more! We are grateful to everyone who attended and to our students who volunteered to lead our student groups, perform, and lead workshops.

Looking forward to next year!

In our recent production of Disney’s Frozen, the full cast sang these words in the finale:

“Let’s fill this world with light and love.”

That is exactly what Tommy Casey did. His light shined bright, and his love for others was evident by his many friends in the cast, crew, and beyond.

As we scrolled through our many videos posted during Frozen, we saw many that featured him. We couldn’t help but smile each time we saw him. His energy and joy were pure and constant.

It simply won’t be the same without him, but we are so glad that he decided to be a part of the MTHS Musical his senior year. His contributions to our program will always be remembered and appreciated.

Please keep the Casey family and all who loved him in your prayers during this difficult time.

Announcing our first MTHS Theatre Dept. Theatre Camp!

Join us for three days of workshops on acting, singing, dancing, audition prep, technical theatre, and more. Come and learn what is like to be a part of a MTHS production! This will be run by our production staff and current cast and crew members.

July 8-10 from 9 AM to 12 PM in our Auditorium.
Open to students in 4th through 8th Grade.

Registration (including a t-shirt) is $75. Limited spots available!

A Note from the Director:

WOW! I am amazed by the talent I saw this week for auditions for The Outsiders. I want to thank everyone who took the time to prepare for their audition and show interest in the MTHS Theatre Department. We were so impressed with the talent and number of students who auditioned - almost 70. If you do not see your name on this list, please do not be discouraged. We had to make many difficult decisions based on the amount of interest we had with limited roles available. Even though we were unable to cast everyone in the production, we want to encourage you to watch for more theatre opportunities at MTHS, including our annual Madrigal production (auditions on Monday) and Spring Musical, to be announced later next week! If you are interested in being a part of the TECH Crew, please stay tuned for our application available in August.

We will have our first cast meeting/read-thru on Tuesday, May 19th from 6-8 in the Auditorium.

As we continue to grow the theatre department at MTHS, we need your help!

In recent years, the students have performed in large productions such as Cinderella, Clue, Mary Poppins, Shrek, and most recently, Disney’s Frozen. This fall, the students will be taking on another challenging production: The Outsiders!

We hope as students go through the program that they come out of it as well-rounded performers. Performers that are not only on-stage but also become familiar and interested in another category: costuming, props, set design, tech, and more. For next year, we are hoping to improve and update many of our tools and resources used by students in these categories.

We have created an Amazon Wish List with items that are currently needed. We are hoping to utilize these items to make our scene shop more organized and accessible for students. If you would like to donate financially and not purchase items off of the list, please use the donation tab on our online box office. Please enter “Musical Donation” into the notes. All donations will be used to purchase any additional items off of the Wish List or go towards larger items that will benefit the technical side of our theatre program, such as new lighting instruments, a LED star curtain, and more.

These items are for the students. Students who are growing artists and are capable of tackling great productions. Again, we would like to be able to provide tools to help them along the way.
