Metamora has played 805 varsity football games since beginning in 1946, and last night’s was the first to kickoff after 10:00 pm.

The Redbirds played a tremendous first game, opening the season with a 10-0 win on the beautiful campus of Sterling High School.

Stats to remember:

Game ended at 12:24 am.
Buses arrived at MTHS at 2:54 am.
Redbirds are 1-0.

It has been an ‘80s flashback week at MTHS.

We spotted the following in the hallways:

1986 grad Gina Shay and 1989 grad Ty Shay toured the building for the first time in more than 30 years! They were wildly impressed.

Dr. Bev Hartter, freshly retired after 52 years of teaching, returned to tour the school where she last taught in 1993.

Ron Kiesewetter, class of 1985 and eventual MTHS choral director and principal, also came back for a visit.

Redbird junior Isaiah Farraher fired a 1-under par 71 at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria to lead the MTHS boys squad in today’s season opening tournament. Metamora finished 8th of 19 teams.

What a great round, Isaiah! Congrats!

You can’t win them all unless you win the first two! The girls golf team opened the MTHS athletic school year with a 174-192 win over L-P and followed that with the Woodford County Invite tournament title yesterday.

Gil Tyra and Natalie Zimmerman combined to shoot a round of 70 in the 18-hole scramble format, while teammates Addie Mitchell and Piper Crispen were close behind, firing a 71.

Metamora 141, Eureka 179, El Paso-Gridley 184, Fieldcrest 197.

It’s a SILVER MEDAL for Anna Peplowski in the 4 X 200 freestyle relay!

Swimming with Katie Ledecky, Erin Gemmell, and Rylee Erisman, the US team set an all-time Pan Pacific Championships record, but the team was edged out for gold by Australia.

What an incredible accomplishment. Congrats again, Anna!

ANNA PEPLOWSKI placed 4th last night in the 200 meter freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California. With 2026 not being a World Championships or an Olympics year, this is the biggest 2026 event in the world.

The Redbird grad and 2024 Olympic silver medalist was the highest USA finisher, swimming a time of 1:55.94. For context, the WORLD RECORD is 1:52.23.

TOMORROW - it’s time for boys soccer, volleyball, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, girls tennis, and girls swimming to start!
