🎶 “The cow on the farm says…” 🎶
This may look like playing with a farm, but so much communication is happening here!
Through familiar play and song routines, littles can practice:
👉🏾 Sharing attention
👉🏾 Taking turns
👉🏾 Imitating actions and sounds
👉🏾 Requesting and commenting
👉🏾 Following another person’s lead
👉🏾 Building flexible, back-and-forth interaction
✋🏾Some differences to that requiren a second look:
🔴 Limited interest in including another person
🔴 Rarely looking, pointing, or bringing toys to share
🔴 Difficulty taking turns in back-and-forth play
🔴 Limited imitation of actions, sounds, or pretend-play
🔴 Using toys in repetitive ways with little variation

Communication grows through connection and social routines create the perfect place to practice both. 😊
Familiar games and activities like peekaboo 🙈, “ready, set, go 🚗,” bath time 🛁 , mealtime 🍽️ , and bedtime 🛌 songs help littles learn to:
👉🏾 Anticipate what comes next
👉🏾 Take turns
👉🏾 Watch and respond to others
👉🏾 Use gestures, sounds, and words
👉🏾 Experience the joy of shared interaction
You don’t need a planned activity, just repetition, playfulness, and connection!
🚩 Differences that should be noted:
✋🏾 Not looking, gesturing, vocalizing, or moving to keep the routine going.
✋🏾 Limited imitation of simple sounds, actions, or facial expressions
✋🏾 Rarely sharing smiles, excitement, or enjoyment with another person
