John Calvin Playschool was first organized as a Christian community service by the church in 1970. We strive to help preschoolers in the following four areas:
1) to develop social skills, creativity, and self-confidence
2) to develop a positive attitude toward school
3) to develop social self-discipline and
4) to develop curiosity by exploring the world around them. These goals are realized through regular peer association, in the warm, loving and essentially unstructured atmosphere provided by the teachers. A Christian environment is the core of the daily life at our school. Children are able to develop social skills such as cooperating, helping, and sharing and they are encouraged by teachers to “use words” and talk to each other to solve problems. We provide a wide variety of developmentally appropriate experiences to stimulate a child’s growth and learning in the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual areas. We strive to expose our students to an environment and activities that develop their self-esteem and their natural joy of learning. John Calvin Playschool believes that children learn best through play and concrete learning activities. It is through play, discovery, and exploration that our students grasp concepts and learn in a meaningful way. “We are a child’s place and we move at a child’s pace” is not only a cute quote, but it is also our school motto. We believe that children need to learn at their speed and our small classes allow our teachers to work individually with students to help them learn. We are able to effectively introduce new topics while still being able to review past skills. It is through our hands-on approach to learning that we have been successfully educating children through play for over fifty years.
