It seems that some of the immersion parents are not aware of the happenings with the state of immersion. Here is a brief summary of what's going on. The JPPSS has a huge financial deficit. The immersion programs have been routinely under attack for possible budget cuts, therefore cutting the program. In December 2011, the JPPSS school board approved a charter for a full immersion school. This was granted to the International School of Louisiana. It will be located at 822 S. Clearview Parkway in Elmwood, La. 70123 starting August 2012. As an immersion parent, you have the choice to keep your child at J. C. Ellis or transfer to International School of Louisiana Jefferson Parish. The application deadline for ISL-JP has passed, but they will accept your application. Here is the application info on the JPPSS website: http://www.jppss.k12.la.us/district/news/Blog.aspx?id=2147507266&blogid=2147485652 .
Regardless of what choice you and your family make, please complete the letter of intent and return it to school on Monday, May 7, 2012. Ms. Berner needs to plan her budget for next year and has to factor in how many immersion students will remain.
Jefferson Parish Public School System Students in the Jefferson Parish Public School System that would like to participate in a foreign language immersion curriculum may now apply to the International School of Louisiana which will open a new charter school in Jefferson Parish in August 2012.
