First and second graders dove into the exciting world of government and elections just in time for Election Day! To bring the voting process to life, students participated in a mock election, choosing between our very own Rabbi Ge**er and Rabbi Phil to decide who makes the best challah for Shabbat. With voter registration cards in hand, each student checked in with the precinct worker (thanks Mrs. Faherty!) before casting their vote. The results were close, but Rabbi Ge**er ultimately won by a narrow margin.
To deepen their understanding students watched Brain Pop videos, explored resources on reformjudaism.org, and completed fun activities and writing prompts. They learned about the U.S. government, the election process, and connected these lessons to key Jewish values. Students even imagined what they’d do if they were president, drawing inspiration from Sonia Sotomayor’s book. The week was filled with excitement, learning, and curiosity—who knew voting could be so much fun?
