St. Anthony Choir director- Rick Marcel 03/05/2024

I was just saying that I wish I had made that video from the other angle ... so the guitar would hide my fat belly. Well it turns out Mr. Don Keller actually did make a video from that camera angle, and also ... for some reason, I think the audio sounds better in his video. Probably because he was closer to the Bass and Drum feed, so it's a better mix with the guitar, bass, and drums. Only thing is ... in this video, you can't see Jackie Harris dancing around in the background.

Allan, a look back 06/07/2016

Well, another bittersweet moment, as one of my long-time students goes away to college. Allan and his sister Leslie started taking piano lessons with me at a young age ... Leslie went off to college about 3 years ago, and now Allan.
So here's a "going away" video for Allan. The best part of this video for me, is the look of confidence and self satisfaction on Allan's face at his last Recital ... as he walks off to the sound of applause after giving the best performance of his life.
Going to miss him a lot.

Divine Intervention 06/13/2015

As I was combing through all my videos looking for clips of Ryan to make his tribute video, I came across this gem. I'm not sure why I had never posted this video, but somehow it got over looked. This is "Divine Intervention" from the 2013 Recital. And of course the impeccable Ward Smith on Saxophone. I love working with Ward because he always makes my songs sound great. And of course having Dave Thomas on drums and Bobby Rodwig on Bass helps a lot too.

Divine Intervention This is from the 2013 Recital. I had just written this song, and was sort of thinking of making it a piano solo, but when I heard Ward play it on sax, I deci...

Ryan, a Look Back 06/09/2015

This is a bitter/sweet moment for me in that Ryan, who has been a student of mine for about 8 years, took his last lesson with me last week. Both Joy and I will miss him very much (my wife, Joy said she always looked forward to Ryan's lessons because he played so well.) I made this video tribute to Ryan to celebrate his success at becoming such an excellent musician. Just as important though, let me say that he has grown into a fine young man. It has been an absolute pleasure to have been his teacher for all these many years. Thank you Ryan, and good luck!!!

Ryan, a Look Back Ryan has been a student of mine from way back when he was just a youngster in grammar school. It has been a joy to have had him as a student these many years...

Going to have some students playing in the recital at Guitar Center this Sunday. I personally haven't done a recital since starting to teach at G.C. Which means last May was the first time in about 10 years that I did not sponsor a recital. So, this year my students at G.C. will have recital to play at, but it is not the same as when I personally sponsored my own recital. That actually makes it a lot easier for me. No trophies to worry about, Jennifer at G.C is putting together the program. The room and equipment setup ... all done by Guitar Center ... all I have to do is show up.

12/04/2014

So .... yes, I still have this page: Piano/Guitar Lessons with Rick Marcell ... Well, here's the deal ... I am coming up on my 1 year anniversary with Guitar Center. I have to say, so far, I am VERY happy teaching at Guitar Center. Never thought I'd be saying that, but it has been all good for me. Therefore, I am not really pushing my Private Lessons at home. I still have a few students that come to my home, but mostly I am looking to boost my volume of Students at Guitar Center, which, the nice people at Guitar Center have been very cooperative with me in accomplishing. And, of course I need to tread lightly as to not have any "conflict of interest" with G.C. Having said that, however, I am not opposed to taking new students at home, ... IF I can find an open time slot, and as long as I am not in violations in any way of "conflict of interest" with Guitar Center. (for example if the student is someone I met through G.C.) Problem is I honestly don't have many open time slots. Such an unfortunate problem to have ... right? LOL

Equinox 05/23/2013

This one of my new students, Douglas, playing Equinox with the band at the 2013 Recital. Near the end of the video, Douglas and I "trade licks". This young man seems to have a lot of potential as a Jazz Musician.
