We are proud to celebrate Elle Gandy ‘30 and Daniela Medina ‘30, who participated in the National History Day National Contest, held June 14–18 at the University of Maryland. The two students competed alongside participants from all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, Department of Defense Schools in the Atlantic, and international schools in China, Korea, and beyond.
Elle Gandy earned the Louisiana Outstanding Junior Division Award for her website, “Everybody Loves Lucy: The Revolution of the First True Sitcom” — a remarkable achievement on a national stage.
National History Day is a project-based learning experience in which students research a topic of their choice connected to an annual theme. This year’s theme was Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History. All 8th graders participated as part of the Middle School Capstone Project, presenting their work through an exhibit, website, documentary, or paper.
Elle and Daniela both placed first and second, respectively, at the Louisiana state competition in April, earning an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at nationals. They traveled to Washington, D.C., alongside fellow Louisiana contestants and teacher Killian Philipson, where they not only competed but also explored the many museums and historical landmarks our nation’s capital has to offer.
We couldn’t be prouder! Well done, Elle and Daniela! ❤️💙

K|1|2 History Day concluded a year-long study of ancient Egypt! Our Kindergarten, first, and second grade students immersed themselves in a year-long study of Ancient Egypt, and this culminating day-long event was truly amazing! From learning to dance to an Egyptian meal they helped prepare, they experienced a taste of life in Ancient Egypt.

Last Friday, we gathered in Weinmann Auditorium to bid farewell to our 8th-grade students as they transition to Upper School next year. We enjoyed reflecting on their middle school years through a heartfelt slideshow and were inspired by Dr. Ortiz's words on the exciting opportunities that lie ahead in Upper School. Additionally, three representatives from the 8th grade—Antoine Banks, Tally Furlow, Piper Grace, and Gus Hopkins—shared their reflections on the Class of 2030. Congratulations to the 8th grade! We look forward to witnessing your achievements in the Upper School.

Last week, we gathered in the Weinmann Auditorium to bid farewell to the 5th-grade class as they "sauntered" into their Middle School journey next year. We cannot wait to see all this 5th-grade class will do in the future! As a special touch, the 5th-grade students were escorted by their Pre-K buddies. A particularly touching moment was when Ms. Mimi read aloud what each Pre-K student thought their buddy would grow up to be.
As we said our goodbyes, we couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and pride for the bright futures that lie ahead for these students in Middle School!

After powering through their end-of-year exams, our 8th graders traded their pencils for playtime — and made some very special friends in the process. Students headed out to Freedom Field to spend time with the youngest Cajuns from our Country Day Early Childhood Center, filling the afternoon with laughter, games, and plenty of smiles on both ends.
It was a wonderful reminder that some of the best rewards come not from a grade, but from the joy of connection. Our older students showed up with energy and heart, and our littlest learners were more than happy to keep up.
We love seeing our Cajun community come together across every age — this is what Country Day is all about.

Earlier this month, we celebrated the winners of our 18th Annual Word of the Week (WOW) Writing Contest! Each year, students are challenged to incorporate as many of the year’s weekly "WOW" words as possible into an original and creative writing piece. We are so proud of our student writers and their creativity, imagination, and enthusiasm for language!
Congratulations to this Year’s Winners!
