Midsummer Marquee 🎬
We opened the studio doors to reunite for an evening of fun! We laughed, we played, took risks and created some unforgettable moments! Watching actors encourage each other and grow together never gets old. Here’s a glimpse of the fun.

Check out our kids celebrating their last class before the summer break. We challenged them with a new exercise that sparked collaboration in addition to keen observation skills from a chosen actor in the group. We had prizes for the winners of all the challenges, and fun gifts for each actor to take home. One of the gifts was specifically given to use over the summer to sharpen one of the key elements of the craft. We’ll see who went for it when they return!

Essentials class has been working a class unit on emotional availability. We are still in process of gathering sad songs + running emotional escalator drills--The cry lab is coming 😅 Main work has been towards getting safely out of our comfort zones & working on focus exercises to hone concentration skills so that when on set, we can all be calm + laser focused. Scenework this past week included original & scripted material. It was really gratifying to see the adjustments to notes from week 2. Improvised scenes didnt just delight, they uplifted [Not all heroes wear capes ]-- We have some future writer|directors in class~ 🎬

The brilliance of specificity lies in its detail. These choices are not broad strokes; they are exact colors placed with intention. --Ethan Hawke

Great attention to detail coming out of The Essentials. Last week was our first ever Continuity Lab- We worked on a mock coffee commercial practicing bearhugging suggestions of the script, simplifying movement, and the strange balance of paying attention to blocking without making it the only focus. We all gained appreciation for the work of Scripties on set.

Scenes ranged from a darkly comedic cooking lesson gone terribly wrong to a heartfelt meditation on protection of one's friends via a mediation of two volleyball players fueding over a 10th grade disinvitation.
