🎸 Metairie Moms — Is Your Child Ready for Guitar Lessons?

I get this question all the time:

“Is my child too young?”
“What if they’re left-handed?”
“What if their hands are tiny?”
“Will they get frustrated?”

If you’ve wondered this, you’re not alone 💛

At Metairie Music Academy, I work with kids ages 5–12 every week, and here’s what I’ve learned:

🎵 Age Isn’t Everything

Most kids are ready around 6 or 7 — but I’ve had motivated 5-year-olds do beautifully.

What really matters:
✔️ Can they focus for about 30 minutes?
✔️ Can they follow simple directions?
✔️ Are they excited about music?

If they light up when they hear music… that’s usually your sign.

🙌 “But My Child Is Left-Handed…”

Totally fine.

Some learn on left-handed guitars.
Some play standard guitars.

Both work. We simply figure out what feels natural for your child.

✋ “But Their Hands Are So Small…”

We use smaller ½ and ¾ size guitars made just for kids.

We don’t start with hard chords.
We don’t push painful stretches.
We build confidence first.
