Such a full-circle moment at the Ring Celebration. I ran into my former Class of 2018 animation student, Ivan Muñoz—now receiving his degree in Animation. It’s an incredible feeling to know I played a small part in his journey beginning with Mesquite ISD Career & Technical Education.

Yesterday was my last day as a teacher.
It’s been an emotional and reflective week as I wrap up 22 incredible years in education. Between finishing up student certifications, making arrangements for my students heading to TSA Nationals this summer, and packing up a career’s worth of memories from my classroom, it’s been a whirlwind.

There were a lot of goodbyes this week—to my amazing students and the wonderful coworkers I’ve had the privilege to work alongside at MISD. I’m especially grateful for the KEOM staff for the send-off lunch at Saltgrass Steakhouse, and to my awesome Mesquite HS CTE department for the heartfelt messages on my farewell card.

While it’s hard to say goodbye, I’m also incredibly excited for what’s ahead as I begin a new chapter at the University of Texas at Dallas!

🎉 New Job Announcement! 🎉

After 22 amazing years teaching in Mesquite ISD—covering a range of CTE courses including Advanced AV Production, Webmastering, Animation, BCIS, Digital Media, and business classes—I’m thrilled (and a bit emotional) to share that I’ll be starting a new adventure next week as the Assistant Director of Digital Marketing at the University of Texas at Dallas, in the Development and Alumni Relations Department!🧡💚

I’m incredibly excited to join the amazing UTD Alumni Relations team and collaborate with such a talented and passionate group of professionals. I look forward to bringing my experience in software, video production, and content creation to the table—crafting compelling stories, engaging visuals, and creative campaigns that celebrate the Comet community. With a strong background in A/V production and a deep love for digital storytelling, I’m eager to help elevate UT Dallas Alumni’s social media presence and connect with both graduates and current students in meaningful and memorable ways.

To all my MISD colleagues and former students—thank you for an unforgettable ride. From sponsoring BPA and TSA, to traveling with students across the country (Washington D.C., Baltimore, Nashville, Orlando, Atlanta—you name it), to cheering them on as they earned top state and national awards in video production... it’s been the honor of a lifetime. 🎥🏆

My classroom became more than just four walls—it was a launchpad for creativity, career readiness, and growth. From being featured on local news (Telemundo 39 News Dallas) and KEOM 88.5 FM, to winning Digital Marketing Awards working with Downtown Mesquite, TX from Texas Downtown, our annual Field Trip Video Competitions at the State Fair of Texas, to certifying hundreds of students in Adobe Suite Software, I’m so proud of what we’ve built together. 🧑‍🏫🎬

And don’t worry—I’ll always be “Mr. Coursey” at heart (see Exhibit A 👇👇). Check out my transformation from A/V teacher to Digital Marketing superhero—now available in collectible action figure form! 😉

Here’s to bold new beginnings, exciting challenges, and a new campus to call home. Let's go, Comets! 🚀
