Mesquite ISD and the Grayson County Special Education Co-op have been awarded a nearly $1 million TEA grant to expand autism services and inclusive practices across North Texas.

🎓 Congratulations to the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of North Mesquite High School’s Class of 2026 Antonio Charles and Kathy Avila!
Valedictorian: Antonio Charles
Antonio excelled in UIL Academics, Robotics, and National Honor Society throughout high school and earned recognition as an AP Scholar with Distinction. He earned a full ride to Rice University through the highly competitive QuestBridge National Match Scholarship and was selected for Rice University’s prestigious Emerging Scholars Program for incoming Computer Science majors. Antonio plans to double major in computer science and mathematics at Rice University.
Salutatorian: Kathy Avila
Kathy has demonstrated exceptional leadership and scholarship as president of National Honor Society, captain of four UIL teams, vice president of the Science Club, and a research intern at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she helped develop gene therapy research for a rare neurological disorder. She is a QuestBridge Scholar matched with Brown University on a full four-year scholarship and plans to pursue neuroscience and mathematics on the pre-med track. Kathy is also a Priddy Young Scientist Award recipient and AP Scholar with Distinction.

Students from Galloway Elementary traveled to Kansas City to compete in the Destination Imagination Global Tournament and earned sixth place overall in their category! 🎉
Led by Patricia McCarty and Luz Hernandez Vela, these students showcased creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving on a global stage. Thank you to their families and everyone who supported the team throughout this competition season. We are so proud of their hard work and accomplishments!

🎓 Congratulations to the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Mesquite High School’s Class of 2026, Mike Borjas and Jessica Agbadiba!
Valedictorian: Mike Borjas
Mike has maintained a Top 10 rank and A-Honor Roll all four years of high school. He is an AP Scholar with Distinction, has earned seven Microsoft certifications, and competed at the state level in DECA and BPA. Mike plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has earned more than $100,000 in scholarships.
Salutatorian: Jessica Agbadiba
Jessica was named a National Merit Finalist this year — the first recipient from Mesquite High School since 2018, and is also a Mesquite ISD 18 Under 18 honoree. She has served as regional president of BPA, president of MHS BPA and FCCLA, and is involved in NHS, UIL Academics, and the City of Mesquite Youth Council. Jessica plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in Computer Engineering. She has earned more than $284,000 in scholarships.

The inaugural Special Education Leadership Academy Cohort officially completed their capstone presentations! 🎉👏
Over the past 4 months, participants strengthened their leadership skills and collaborated on innovative ways to better support students, staff, and systems across Mesquite ISD. We’re excited to see the difference these leaders will continue making on campuses across Mesquite ISD!

What started as a normal day at West Mesquite High School turned into an unforgettable surprise for junior Adison Robbins! 🎉 Last week, surrounded by family, classmates, and teachers, Adison was awarded a $40,000 BigFuture® Scholarship from College Board during a special campus celebration. Congratulations, Adison! 👏

🎉 Seabourn Elementary School is welcoming new campus leadership! Please join us in congratulating Lissete Contreras on her new role as assistant principal.
Lissete Contreras brings more than 20 years of experience in public education. She most recently served as an assistant principal at Barton Elementary in Irving ISD.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Contreras served as an instructional coach in Ysleta ISD and began her career as a special education teacher and bilingual teacher in Socorro ISD.
Ms. Contreras earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from Park University and a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Grand Canyon University.
We are excited to welcome Ms. Contreras to the Mesquite ISD family!
