We had a great guest speaker today in Digital Video class. Karissa Leicht is a filmmaker and aspiring Director of Photography. She talked to us about her schooling, her jobs and movies she's worked on, the importance of networking, and showed us her demo reel. Here are some key takeaways from her talk:
1. Every job is an audition - be nice, work hard. People on set are watching you and if they're impressed with your work they will hire you for future jobs or for better positions.
2. Network - stay in touch with friends from school. They are likely to hire you or recommend you when they can.
3. Demo Reel - Keep it short, and show your very best in the first 5 cuts.
4. Work Hard - sometimes you have to take low, or unpaid, work to help build your work experience and exposure. So use those chances to learn a lot, network, and gain experience! It won't be forever.
