Athletic Training Practice Based Research Network

The mission of the Athletic Training PBRN is to improve the quality of care and patient outcomes in patients under the care of certified athletic trainers.

We have created a diverse PBRN of athletic trainers in secondary schools, colleges, and clinics to engage in injury surveillance and clinical outcomes research to determine the effectiveness of athletic training services, characterize athletic training practice, and evaluate the economic impact of athletic training services. The Athletic Training PBRN has the potential to revolutionize clinical research and evidence-based practice within the athletic training profession.

Congratulations to our Director, Dr. Kenny Lam, who will be participating in the upcoming U.S. Bone and Joint Initiative Young Investigator's Program. Details below!

ATSU AT hero represents—again.

Congratulations to Dr. Kenny Lam on being accepted into the USBJI Young Investigator Initiative, a mentoring and career development program that aims to increase the pipeline of clinician and basic scientists undertaking musculoskeletal research studies, with the purpose of providing experienced and supportive mentoring on how to construct a well-founded research proposal and secure funding for basic, translational or clinical research. Recipients were chosen based on research experience and potential of the quality of the study proposal.

Dr. Kenny Lam’s proposed study is to determine the comparative effectiveness of ankle joint mobilization versus a self-guided stretching protocol in improving patient-oriented outcomes in patients with chronic ankle instability. The broad, long-term objective of this research is to determine the most effective interventions for improving patient-oriented outcomes following injury to the ankle.
