Season's Greetings, Thunderbirds!
A poem for the winter break.
‘Twas at MCC

‘Twas at Southern and Dobson, Red Mountain, about,
That the spirit of Mesa was witnessed throughout.
From the roses, saguaro, the bunnies, and snakes–
Each campus does send you a message of thanks.

In a term full of wonder, excitement, some qualms;
No matter your journey to get here: you belong!
For it’s now you deserve some much needed rest,
And commend your achievements–you gave us your best!

And to bring you the heart of some Winter Break cheer,
Or to sing you the tune of a Happy New Year,
We must first bring about a reminder, you see?
–To wish you safe tidings, dear MCC!

From the Thorsdays, to finals, to the fun in-between,
We are grateful to play such a part in your routine.
And we leave you with this, please take it from Thor:
We are happy to have you back next year for more!

Krys Newbury graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in theatre (design and production). In January, they will head to California, where they will intern as a scenic design assistant for Pacific Conservatory Theatre then stay through summer as a lighting design assistant. After that, they look forward to experiencing theatre in different places.

“Long term, I want to travel and work in different places and figure out where I want to settle down,” Newbury said.

A transfer student from Mesa Community College, Newbury said, “I knew ASU had a great theatre program, so this is where I came after I finished my associate degree.”

You can read more about the work Newbury did while at ASU and their advice for current students here: https://musicdancetheatre.asu.edu/news/design-and-production-experience-lights-way-theater-grad
