Every year the Maricopa County Farm Bureau hosts an Agriculture Communication contest asking youth members across the county to present their agricultural story to the public. Alisa Velasquez illustrated her family’s story and the continuous presence her grandfather has as she writes her agricultural story. Alisa Velasquez was awarded Senior Champion for the Agriculture Communication Contest!
Meet Aubry Stockman, a Junior, raising her market lamb Truffle. Aubry has done a great job this year in her 2nd lamb project. She has worked hard to balance work, caring for truffle, academics, cheer and her family.

Meet Alisa Velasquez, a Senior, raising her first market lamb Bluey Ruff. Alisa has put the work into Bluey to make him the best Southdown he can be.

Last but certainly not least meet Kailah Rodriguez, a Freshman, raising and showing her market goats Maverick and Goose. As a first year showman in Maricopa County, Kailah has made a name for herself.
This week, Kailah earned Reserve Champion Heavyweight market goat, Champion Intermediate Novice Goat Showman, Champion Intermediate Goat Showman and Reserve Intermediate Showman for Round Robin. Kailah is auctioning her market goat in the largestock auction Saturday at 10am in the Ag Center at the state fairgrounds.

Next up we have Lilly Flick, a Freshman, raising her first market goat Yolo. As a first year showman, Lilly has worked hard to train and build her skill set.

Meet Katlynn McNiel, a Junior, raising her market lamb Dum Dum. Katlynn has spent breeding and market week showing off Dum Dum.

Meet Aurora Kimbrough -Smyth, a Junior, raising her natural ewe, Ceto. Aurora has been crafting her sheep showmanship this year, while, attending many stock shows.

Meet James Zamora, a junior, raising his first lamb Mabel. James has been raising his Southdown all year and was pulled for overall Southdown and senior novice showman.

Meet Ethan Massey, a sophomore, raising his first lamb Gonzo. Ethan has participated all week in showmanship and judging with his Southdown.

Meet Isaac Cone, a sophomore, raising his first lamb Buttercup. Isaac has participated all week in Breeding and Market with his ewe. Isaac was named Reserve Champion Senior Novice showman for Breeding.

Meet our 2024 Maricopa County Fair Poultry Exhibitors! Dobson FFA had 8 students this week show their chickens, ducks, turkeys and fancy pigeons. Sofia Wong, Xavier Garcia, Melodie Myers, Mechelle Gamez, Travis Reece, Kayleen Santiago Vielma, Abigail Hurst and Andrew Streicher have worked tirelessly to showcase their birds to the best of their abilities earning best of varieties, reserve of their species and many blue and red ribbons this week!
Tonight at 7pm, 3 of our students will be auctioning in the small stock auction at the state fair grounds in the Ag Center!

Meet Sofia Wong, she is a junior this year and in her first year showing silkies. This is Sofia’s first Maricopa County Fair and she did great in showmanship and judging. She showed her white silkie Popcorn, where Popcorn showed her best in the ring!

Meet Andrew Streicher, he is a junior this year and is heavily involved in our turkey projects at Dobson. This is Andrew’s third Maricopa County Fair in the poultry department. Over the past two years Andrew has had his hen Jenny and is very thankful for the poultry show happening this year!

Meet Mechelle Gamez, she is a senior this year and in her first year in our program. This is Mechelle’s first Maricopa County Fair and she did amazing in showmanship and judging! She showed her two medium weight ducks Romeo and Juliet, where Romeo received the award of Reserve overall for medium weight ducks!

Dobson FFA had a great start to the 2024 Maricopa County Fair in breeding weekend! Aurora, Isaac, Kailey and Katlynn showed off their breeding ewes today and did amazing in showmanship and breeding classes.

It might be spring break but that doesn’t stop our students from doing what they do best! From caring for their animals twice a day every day, shearing sheep, attending Fair meetings, working in the greenhouse, completing landlab projects, visiting local farms and helping care for injured animals, for our students it’s just another day!

A few weeks ago Innovative Agriculture students enjoyed the experience of touring Pinal Feeding Company. Students toured the mill, feedlot and learned about the operation from start to finish.
