I often felt out of place in a lot of social groups. Never really felt like a “normal” person. So to be able to have a microschool for students who feel the same way is a dream. 💙
Growing Humans
Certified teacher running a microschool, and finding ways to help humanity grow.
I knew when I saw the project that it was gonna be our Mother’s Day project. Students proud about all the work and love they put into these!
Setting a timer and committing to working on a task for that time can be really helpful as well.
I still remember the first day I microschooling. I was nervous about having enough time to get things done in a 4 day school week when I came from a 5 day one.
But then our first time cleaning up and heading out for recess, they were ready in about 1.5 minutes. Other transitions they were doing in 30 seconds.
Lots of transitions with 25-30 students took 5 minutes or more. With 10? It’s so much faster.
So right on that first day of microschooling I was able to see how you can go so much MORE done in LESS time!
Been feeling inspired by my artsy students so sometimes I’ll jump in and paint with them.
Some students, nearly everyday, need that pause. They need that moment to process and reflect in their feelings. With a small group, and mastery-based learning, it makes it so much easier for us to do that.
We have the ultimate flexible seating. As long as students are trustworthy and responsible about it of course.
Today we got to experience a wild….quail chase.
We were just about to leave the house when my daughter tells me a bunch of baby birds just ran into the garage.
And they weren’t just any baby birds, but quail babies…and 10 of them.
We tried to corral them and guide them out of the garage but they weren’t going. Instead they scattered all over the garage underneath things. They are super tiny and fast!
We ended up take a bunch stuff out of the garage to try and find them all and release them into a bush near where we saw their mom. We got 6 out of there. I know one finally ran out on its own. I hope the last 3 ran out at some point too. That was nuts.
Somehow missed planning one of our morning activies this last week. Thankfully has a whole library of empowerment lessons that I can easily access, and quickly pick one for them to do!

Field trip to the Phoenix Symphony hall! This is a special rehearsal show they open up to students. I love how they explained parts@of a symphony, how it works, etc. between songs.
