In many districts, there is only about 6 weeks of the school year left! This is the time of year that is typically filled with testing, projects, and hopefully graduation. If your student is feeling behind, or crunched for time, tutoring may help them gain the skills and confidence they need to catch up. This is also a great time of year to start making sure your student has the skills they need to be successful in math in their next year of schooling! A common misconception is that math is just about being able to solve equations, make calculations quickly, or knowing math facts... "What's the point if I always have a calculator and Google in my pocket?" The truth is, math is so much more, especially at the middle and high school levels! While knowing math facts and procedures/steps to solving equations definitely helps, true learning happens when the students understand WHY they use those procedures, and how they apply to other problems and concepts. When a student succeeds in math, it opens a new door to problem solving, critical thinking, and innovation.
