All week we will be celebrating Dr. Maria Montessori's 150th Birthday. We will be learning more about her and paying tribute to her. Without Dr Montessori's work, our school would not be here.
A little about Maria Montessori:
Maria Tecla Artemisia Montessori Was born August 31, 1870. Maria was an Italian physician and educator best known for the philosophy of education that bears her name, and her writing on scientific pedagogy. At an early age, Montessori broke gender barriers and expectations when she enrolled in classes at an all-boys technical school, with hopes of becoming an engineer. She soon had a change of heart and began medical school at the Sapienza University of Rome, where she graduated – with honors – in 1896. Her educational method is in use today in many public and private schools globally.
Quotes From Dr. Montessori
"Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed."
"We discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being."
