Sorry I haven’t posted in a while! This year got a little busy! I went from being a retired stay at home momma to a junior high Math Interventionist! Shepherd asked me to coach their 7th grade volleyball team and then since I was there I figured why not going to Shepherd Staff officially! I was still able to attend many IEPs to help families!!
Since we don’t have school everyday to keep us busy, I hope everyone packs their summer with lots of fun!! Keep an eye out for Algebra Tutoring & IEP Sessions over the summer!! I have a lot planned!!

Upcoming posts will cover this more, but this is the main idea to the IEP!
Yesterday I covered the PLAAFP (the needs), soon I will cover goals & services!

Since most of the families I support live in Mesa I’m going to cover Mesa headings in the IEP but if you have an iep from another district and have a question about each section feel free to comment.
Today I am sharing information about the PLAAFP or Present Levels of Academic Achievement & Functional Preformance.

We are going to start the Breakdown of IEP parts, but I thought it was important to understand what areas drive each area. I found this image on SPED Advisors website.
For those of you with children 14 yrs old and above a Transition plan comes into play as well! I will dive deep into transition for you all too, but my perspective is Transition planning comes into play in each area based on Present Levels, what goals should they have to support transition needs (those would be addressed in the Coordinated Activities or could potentially be an IEP goal - Progress will be reported on both in Arizona).

Totally agree!

I’d like to post content that you all would benefit & learn from about Special Education!! With that being said what questions do you have?
Possible ideas:
- IEP Process
- What do all the acronyms mean?
- Where do I start in the process?
- Transition Tips or Ideas?
- Break down parts to the IEP (What each section is about?)
- What does it mean to have an advocate?

A little bit about me - for those that I haven’t met or spoken with yet! I graduated from Arizona State in 2009 with my Bachelors in Special Education! I worked while in college as an AVID tutor for Scottsdale Unified School District, and upon graduation I was hired to teach Resource Special Education at Desert Mountain HS. I also coached Volleyball at DMHS, RMHS and clubs outside of schools (throughout my teaching career).
After leaving Scottsdale I headed over to Mesa Public Schools to teach Resource Math at Mesa High School. During that school year I graduated from Arizona State University with my Masters in School Administration.
Once I received my Masters I applied for the Special Education Site Leader position at Red Mountain High School in Mesa and moved over there for a few years supporting a full continuum of services for all special education students on campus!
Next I moved over to Gilbert Public Schools where I was honored to be their Secondary Special Education Coordinator (overseeing services at all Gilbert junior highs & high schools, Transition Services, & Adapted PE).
Upon COVID I had to move away from schools in order to support my own children at home! 3 kids in elementary online school, with one of those children on the Autism Spectrum, made coming home a very necessary decision.
Now that my kids are back at a brick & mortar campus I have more time to work with families and support their education, as well as my own at the same time. I look forward to getting to know you all!!

Hi all - I figured it was time for me to create a page to help grow my ability to support more families with their children’s educational needs! Please help by sharing my page & writing a review if I have supported you or your children in the past!
