At Discovery Self Defense training is built around growth, inclusion, and real experience. Our black belt instructors work alongside students of every belt level during demonstrations, creating an environment where everyone feels involved and supported. Seeing different students act as uke helps remind the class that learning is a shared process, not a performance. Training with a variety of partners also helps students better understand how techniques adapt to different people and situations. Every class is designed to build confidence, skill, and connection both on and off the mat.

Integration means learning across different levels and perspectives. Discovery is fortunate to have black belt instructor Wu Chun teaching and training with us. His thoughtful, detail-oriented approach benefits students of all experience levels, and we’re truly grateful to have him as part of our training community.

To all of those I have had the pleasure to work with these last 6 years (and in many cases the last 16 years!) in Arizona, I am so happy and proud to know you all.

We have learned, laughed, gotten hurt and bettered ourselves together. I consider each and every one of you my family.

Thank you so much for the card and the gifts (though all the time we shared was the real gift).

I expect you all to embrace all that Jeremiah, Wu-Chun and Sherman teach, and I also expect there to be changes to the training curriculum in some ways. You are luck to have three very skilled instructors, and trainers and coaches like Alysia and Sean and Chris.

I can’t wait to see all of you advance In not just rank but more importantly in skill and in confidence.
