Your Merritt Island Baseball team defeated Eau Gallie High 2-1 to win the Cape Coast Conference Championship. The win was powered by 13 strike outs over 6 innings by starting pitcher, Shane P.

CLASS OF 1972 MEMORIAL PADDLE OUT ON SUNDAY 3/2, 9:00 AM AT CHERI DOWN PARK, 8330 RIDGEWOOD AVENUE, CAPE CANAVERAL, FL 32920 - ALL MIHS CLASSES, ALONG WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE WELCOME TO JOIN US. WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO BRING FLOWERS FOR THE PADDLE OUT.

We are adding a Memorial Paddle Out to the agenda for the Birthday Party Weekend. Karin Shektman Schuermann's son, Murray, will be paddling the class surfboard out along with other classmates joining him on the paddle out remembering all our classmates who have passed away. Anyone from other classes are welcome to participate in this event.

We wanted to let everyone know to bring some cash to the birthday party the weekend of 2/28 to 3/2 for a raffle we are going to have to raise funds for a project that Mike Ferry and Steve Horner have been working on to replace the Cross-Country Team State trophy that was lost when the new trophy cabinets were built at the high school, and we will also donate funds to support student activities at MIHS. The tickets will be $5 for one ticket, $10 for three tickets, and $20 for six tickets. We will be raffling the 11X17 lithograph below by artist Mike Willams of Blue Island Graphics.

The cost for the weekend will be $70.00 person and payment needs to be received by 02/14/25 so that we can provide a final headcount to the caterer. This covers dinner, dessert, and champagne toast for Friday and Saturday evening. The cost for Friday night only will be $30.00 per person and cost for Saturday night only will be $40.00 per person.

An email blast has been sent out with payment instructions to classmates that have provided their email addresses to us. The hotel has indicated that they will continue to honor the discounted rate if they have rooms available. If you would like to reserve a room, please contact 321-961-4002 and leave a message.

2/28/25 TO 3/02/25

The birthday celebration will be held at the TownePlace Suites, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920 at TownePlace Suites by Marriott Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach | Marriott Bonvoy on 2/28/25 to 3/02/25.

For the weekend, we will have an event/hospitality room adjacent to the main lobby of the hotel and a reserved area by the pool. Both the main lobby and the pool area have a bar to serve drinks/beverages for the group. We will have access to three areas that are near each other and very accommodating to conversation and visiting. All the areas have TV's where sports fans can watch their favorite teams.

Current agenda for the weekend is below:
• Friday evening – 2/28 5:00 pm- "Welcome Home” – This evening will be very informal and will have the Hospitality/Event room open for classmates to visit with each other along with the other reserved areas. We are planning a pizza party with salad to be catered by Kelsey’s Pizza.
o Cocktails will start at 5:00 pm
o We will start serving pizza/salad at 6pm.
• Saturday evening – 03/01 5pm - Class of 1972 Cheers to 70 Years Birthday Party – Dress Casual/Comfortable. This event will also be in the Hospitality/Event room along with the other reserved areas.
o Social/Cocktail hour will begin at 5:00 pm
o We will begin serving dinner at 6:00 pm to be catered by Sonny’s BBQ
o Champagne birthday toast and desserts at 7:00 pm
o We will have a fun interactive photo booth from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
• Sunday morning – 03/02, Until We Meet Again – 10:00 am – We will make a large group reservation for brunch at Fishlips at the Port for 10:00 am.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our classmate, Karin Shektman Schuermann, last week. Karin is survived by her husband, David (Class of 1974), four sons and grandchildren. Karin’s family was the center of her life. Several classmates shared memories of Karin’s kindness, quick wit, dry sense of humor, directness and school spirit. She will be missed by many, and we extend our condolences to her family and friends.
