Hailey’s ELO started in Semester 1, but she loved Mrs. Cordeiro’s class so much, she came back for another semester. Here she is with a group of 2nd graders during today’s Math Rotations as they worked on converting units of measurement!

Hailey is a Senior at MHS and wants to become an elementary teacher after college. ELOs allow students to dip their toes into a career through Career Explorations, or jump in with an Internship, all while earning high school credit!

Overheard in the classroom today: “You’re my favorite high school kid, ever.”

Thank you to Mrs. Cordeiro and MES for hosting Hailey this year!

While MHS students will often work with community mentors, did you know that ELOs also allow students to work with MHS Staff to work on advanced projects?

Brooke is a Senior who completed all available Pottery classes at MHS. She wanted more, so she is working with Ms. West on an Advanced Study in Pottery.

Lina is considering advanced careers in Chemistry, which means she will likely have to be a TA for undergrads once she gets to grad school. She is working on two chemistry-based ELOs with Dr. Campbell and a third that focuses on "teaching" Chemistry to others.

Come see these scholars at work here in MHS!

Did you know that MHS students will often show up in elementary schools?

For the past four weeks, four Juniors (two on track to take AP Spanish next year and two on track for AP French) have gone to JMUES to teach Spanish Language and Culture to JMUES Students in their after-school extracurriculars. These four students will return later in the Spring to do the same with French!

A huge thank you to these four student leaders, their mentor, Mme. Carter, and the JMUES principal, Dr. Rheault, for providing this World Language sample to Merrimack's 5th and 6th graders!

Good Morning Merrimack!

We are still looking for some ELO Mentors for this semester. If you are local and are willing to mentor a MHS student 2-3 hours a week, please reach out. I will work with mentors in any scheduling requests they need. Many ELOs rely on community mentors so feel free to reach out to me at the high school. harley.hall at sau26.org

Tonight marked the halfway mark of the 2nd Annual MPD Teen Academy.

18 MHS students with an interest in some aspect of criminal law, from police work to forensics, corrections to prosecution, get to see how the MPD does their job. Not only do they meet MPD officers who share their training and experience, specialized agencies such as the NH state crime lab and forensic interviewers, come to share their expertise as well.

Tonight, Town Atty. Claire Minuti spoke about criminal prosecutions, and Officer Stephanie Greenslade covered traffic laws. They capped the night off with Officers Agraz and Boylan showing MHS students how they do high risk Felony Traffic Stops. No doubt the highlight of the night was watching Mr. Hall get handcuffed, searched, and thrown into a police cruiser while playing “bad guy” for the scenario.

If you will be a MHS Sophomore, Junior, or Senior next year, keep an eye out for Teen Academy sign-ups around Thanksgiving!

Happy Friday Merrimack!

One more "THANK YOU" to a community business in Merrimack that mentored an MHS student this past semester!

Lily is a MHS Junior and is considering a career in cosmetology. She completed a Career Exploration ELO with Wild Roots Salon & Spa here in Merrimack, thanks to the owner and mentor, Hannah Mason. Lily not only got to see the ins and outs of professionally working on hair, nails, and lashes, but she also saw how Hannah runs a small business here in town. If you are looking for a local company that gives back to Merrimack students (Hannah is an alumnus but I won't out her by saying what year 😆), stop in and see them. We are thankful for Wild Roots' support of MHS and the ELO program!

As we start the new semester here at MHS, we wanted to take a few days to thank some of our community mentors from last semester this week.

Today, MHS wants to thank Cindy Sousa from Century 21 Northeast for mentoring Kellia in her ELO and helping her become a realtor. Kellia is a junior at MHS and is very much considering a career as a realtor. During her ELO, she reviewed many of the career's elements, including legal and licensing requirements, and observed "HOW" a realtor does her job. Kellia even spent an afternoon helping with an Open House!

Many ELOs require community mentors and we couldn't do it with the community. To see our mentor needs for this and upcoming terms, please check the pinned/featured post.

Thank you again Cindy for being an awesome and involved mentor
