🌟 Fun Fact Friday: The Why Behind Manners

Why Do We Say “Thank You”?

Expressions of gratitude have existed across cultures for centuries. Saying “thank you” became an important social custom because it acknowledges another person’s kindness, time, or effort.

A sincere “thank you” lets someone know:

🧡 I noticed what you did.
💚 I appreciate your kindness.
💜 Your effort mattered to me.

Teaching children to say “thank you” helps them develop gratitude, respect, empathy, and strong social skills. Two small words can make a lasting impression!

Challenge: Encourage your child to sincerely thank someone today—and explain why they are grateful.

🌟 Thrive & Shine Thursday
Believing in Yourself

Social media, television, classmates, and even some adults can sometimes make it difficult to believe in yourself—but you must never stop!

Here is my testimony: Years ago, I tried out for the cheerleading team. Everyone I loved encouraged me and said, “Yes! We believe in you!” Sadly, I missed making the team by just one point. I was heartbroken, but I was also determined not to give up.

I practiced all summer and continued practicing throughout the school year. When auditions came around again, I walked in, showed them everything I had learned—and I made the team! I was so happy because becoming a cheerleader had been one of my dreams.

I am sharing this personal story to remind you that whether people support you from the beginning, join you later, or never understand your dream, you must continue to encourage yourself and believe in yourself.

One disappointment does not mean your dream is over. Keep practicing. Keep growing. Keep believing. Your next opportunity may be the one that changes everything! 💜✨

What is one dream you refuse to give up on?

✨ Well-Mannered Wednesday ✨

Today’s message is for students and young adults ages 18–25.

🌟 Today’s Etiquette Tip: Making Eye Contact
When speaking with someone, make comfortable eye contact to show that you are attentive, confident, and engaged. You do not have to stare—look away naturally from time to time.

📖 The “Why” Behind It
Appropriate eye contact helps build trust and shows respect. It can make a positive difference during conversations, classroom presentations, job interviews, networking events, and professional meetings.

Eye contact can feel uncomfortable or difficult at first—and that is okay! It becomes easier and more natural as you continue to practice.

🎯 Practice Challenge
Today, practice making eye contact for a few seconds when greeting someone, asking a question, or listening to a conversation.

💬 Discussion Question
When is it easiest for you to make eye contact, and when does it feel most challenging?

🏡 Take It Home Activity
Practice having a short conversation with a family member or friend. Focus on comfortable eye contact, active listening, and responding without looking at your phone.

Confidence grows through practice—one conversation at a time!

🌟 Take the Lead Tuesday 🌟

What makes a great leader?

Great leadership begins with the internal work—believing in yourself, recognizing your value, and knowing you have what it takes to lead.

Some people say, “Fake it until you make it.” We say, grow into the leader you know you can become.

A great leader:

• Shows kindness and compassion
• Listens before responding
• Learns how different people communicate and operate
• Leads by example
• Treats others with dignity and respect
• Remains willing to learn and grow

Leadership is not only about being in charge. It is about understanding yourself, connecting with others, and helping everyone move forward together.

Before you lead others, begin by leading yourself.

Assist your children today by giving them the tools they need for tomorrow. Because good manners are more than rules—they are the foundation for lifelong success.

💜 LET'S TALK ABOUT TIPPING! 💛

I was having a conversation with a couple of coworkers today, and something came up that really made me think.

We've noticed that some young people simply aren't tipping—and this isn't about race, creed, color, or background.

So it made me wonder…

At what age should we start teaching children about tipping?

And here's the bigger question:

At what age should we go into detail about tipping etiquette—how much to tip, when to tip, who to tip, and WHY we tip?

Is this something that should be taught at home? In etiquette programs? Before teenagers start going out to restaurants on their own?

🤔 What do you think? What age would you start the conversation?

Drop your thoughts in the comments. 👇🏾

✨ Well-Mannered Wednesday ✨

The Importance of Saying “Hello” 👋🏾

Have you noticed that people don’t say hello as much anymore?

Working with the public, we have noticed how often people walk past one another without speaking, making eye contact, smiling, or even acknowledging that another person is there.

A simple “Hello,” “Good morning,” or “How are you?” can make a difference.

Good manners aren't just about knowing which fork to use or how to sit at the table. Etiquette is also about acknowledging the people around us.

👋🏾 Look up.
😊 Make eye contact.
🗣️ Say hello.
💜 Acknowledge someone’s presence.

You never know what someone may be carrying that day. Your simple greeting could be the moment that reminds them, “Someone sees me.”

This Well-Mannered Wednesday, we challenge you to put the phone down, look up, and say HELLO!

We don’t just teach etiquette—we teach the WHY behind good manners.
