Fairfax County Council PTA is the leading voice in Fairfax County for students and families, supporting and representing 175 PTAs with more than 20,000 members. The Fairfax County Council PTA (FCCPTA) is very excited to be an active partner with our local school units and the Fairfax County community as we work together to provide our children with the highest quality educational environment and o

pportunities available. Through our efforts our children have opportunities to excel and take advantage of so many wonderful programs. We exist to positively impact the lives of all children and families by representing our members and empowering and supporting them with skills in advocacy, leadership, and communication. We exist to:

Foster communication between and among units to share best practices and common concerns. Provide a unified, effective voice in relationships with the School District(s) and community partners which include our local city, county and state offices and officials, our local business community, parents and the community at large. Link the Fairfax County area PTAs with the resources, support and advocacy of the Northern Virginia District, Virginia & National PTA organizations. Be the leading voice advocating quality education and a nurturing environment for all of our children.

Important information for our local PTAs regarding crossing guards

With recent changes to crossing guard coverage being discussed across Fairfax County, we want to make sure our local units have clear guidance: PTAs should not directly hire or pay crossing guards.

Crossing guard responsibilities involve legal authority, specialized training, liability, workers’ compensation, and other requirements that PTAs are not structured to assume.

That does not mean PTAs cannot help.

Local PTAs can work with their school administration to:

* Identify school staff who may be able to assist with arrival and dismissal
* Partner with local law enforcement on trained, authorized crossing guard support
* Explore properly trained parent volunteer options in coordination with the school

We know student safety is the priority for everyone. FCCPTA will continue working with our local units and community partners as schools navigate these changes.

Please do not commit PTA funds toward hiring or paying crossing guards.

📰 National PTA Responds to Executive Order Weakening Childhood Vaccination Recommendations 📢

Last evening, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that would weaken childhood vaccination recommendations. National PTA President Dr. Bill Datema, who has had a decades-long career in public health and education, and National PTA Executive Director Howie Berman, MA, CAE, issued the following statement on the executive order:

“The executive order decreases the number of vaccinations recommended for all children, separates combination vaccines into single vaccines and discourages school-based vaccination requirements. This follows the announcement in January that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would no longer be recommending routine immunization for diseases with known health impacts on our nation’s children. Our association is deeply concerned the changing and weakened recommendations will further confuse families, create more burdens for parents and caregivers in accessing health care for their children, increase vaccine hesitancy and mistrust of medical professionals, and lead to higher rates of preventable childhood diseases. This is especially concerning as a new school year gets underway."

Please join us for FCCPTA kicking off the new year w/ Training + General Membership Meeting on Monday, August 10 at 6:30 PM at the FCPS Gatehouse Cafeteria.

This meeting is a great opportunity to connect, learn about officer and board roles, hear updates on programs and advocacy, and review important budget and financial information.
