A colorful look at mid-century Merrick! These illustrated postcards were part of a popular style of the 1930s–1940s, when towns across America were turned into cheerful, colorful souvenirs. Bold artwork, playful characters, and plenty of civic pride offered a charming picture of how communities wanted to present themselves. FUN FACT: Deltiology is the hobby of collecting and studying postcards. The word comes from the Greek word Deltion (meaning small writing tablet) and -logia (meaning the study of). Here are a few from the Merrick Library’s archive. You can see them in person by appointment in our Merrick History Room!

If the value of a library is measured in smiles, we filled our quota for the year in a single day.

Thank you to the countless community partners, agencies, companies, and organizations who show up year after year for the families of Merrick. And a BIG thank you to our neighbors at Curé of Ars for generously sharing their space with us each year. We are so grateful to have them as our neighbors!

For one day, thousands of neighbors came together, made memories, and our community heroes reminded us what it means to show up for one another.

This is what community looks like, and this is why we love serving Merrick.
