A new school year is almost here, and we want to wish all of our Goshinkan students a fantastic year ahead! Whether you’re starting kindergarten, heading into middle school or high school, or simply moving up to the next grade, a new school year brings new teachers, new challenges, new friendships and new opportunities to grow.

And remember, the things we practice at the dojo don’t stay on the mat.

🥋 Confidence when you walk into a new classroom.
🥋 Respect for your teachers and classmates.
🥋 Focus when it’s time to learn.
🥋 Perseverance when something feels difficult.
🥋 Courage to try something new.
🥋 Kindness toward the kid who might be nervous or need a friend.

You’ve already practiced doing hard things. You’ve learned to get back up when you fall, keep trying when something doesn’t come easily, and believe in yourself a little more each time. Take those lessons with you into the classroom.

From all of us at Goshinkan Dojo, we wish our students, families, teachers and school staff a safe, happy and successful school year!

Saturday mornings are for putting in the work! 🥋💪
While most of the world is easing into the weekend, these kids were on the mats yesterday moving, sweating, learning, and getting stronger.

🎮🥋 FROM THE DOJO TO THE VIDEO GAME WORLD! 🎙️

We’re excited to give a special shoutout to our very own Sensei Sal Locascio, whose talents extend well beyond the mats!

When he’s not teaching and training at Goshinkan, Sensei Sal is also a professional voice-over artist …and you can now hear his work in the newly released video game TEETO! 🎮

Sensei Sal lends his voice to multiple characters throughout this colorful 3D adventure, including Danny, a sentient purple-flamingo pool floaty! 🦩😂

It’s always awesome to celebrate the talents and accomplishments of members of our Goshinkan family, both inside and outside the dojo. We’re incredibly excited for Sensei Sal and proud to see (and hear!) him as part of this project!

If you or your kids are gamers, keep an ear out for a familiar Sensei while you’re exploring the world of Teeto! 👀🎧

Congratulations, Sensei Sal! 🥋🎙️🎮

Teeto is available now on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC!

In tonight’s kids class we were playing a fast paced team drill where everyone had two rings attached to their gi. The goal was to protect your own rings while working with your teammates to steal rings from the other team. It’s a fun game, but it’s also packed with important skills: awareness, movement, strategy, blocking, teamwork, and quick decision making.

The round had barely begun when this young student, who also happens to be a new member of our dojo, lost both of his rings. His eyes immediately filled with tears. While the rest of the students were continuing the drill, I walked over and told him, “I know you’re feeling upset and angry. Those feelings are real. But instead of letting them take over, use them. Take a deep breath, get back in there, and help your team.”

He took that deep breath and with tears still in his eyes, he ran right back into the game. His expression changed from discouraged to determined. He finished the round, stayed engaged, and gave it his all. I made sure he knew how proud I was, not because he won, but because he made a choice.

Resilience isn’t about never getting frustrated. It’s about what you do after frustration shows up. Life is going to knock all of us down sometimes. We’ll lose. We’ll make mistakes. Things won’t always feel fair. The goal isn’t to avoid those moments. The goal is to learn that we are stronger than them. Tonight, one brave young martial artist reminded all of us what resilience looks like.
