Game times are as follows:

#3 Haxtun vs. #14 ECA- 10:00 AM

#6 Merino vs. #11 Wiley- 12:30 PM

Regional Championship game: 3:00 PM

The Merino FFA Chapter proudly represented our school and community at the State FFA Career Development Events, earning outstanding results across multiple competitions.

Leading the way, the Land Evaluation Team was named High Team Overall, showcasing their exceptional knowledge and skills. Individually, team members also earned top honors:
*Jerricho Carr – 2nd Overall, Gold Award, and recipient of a $1,000 scholarship to Colorado State University
*Ava Wirbs – 6th Overall, Gold Award
*Ermel Gonzalez-Tomas – 14th Overall, Silver Award
*Rowan Carr – 27th Overall, Bronze Award

In addition to the team’s success, Merino FFA members excelled in other events:
*Kashlyn Gordanier placed 20th Overall in Horse Evaluation, earning a Gold Award
*Parker Spielmann placed 19th Overall in Agronomy, earning a Silver Award

Thanks to their incredible performance, the Land Evaluation Team has qualified for Nationals, with a chance to represent Colorado on the national stage (Contest Pending).

Congratulations to all of our members for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence. We are proud to support these outstanding students as they continue to achieve great things!

It was truly a privilege and honor to present Mr. Everett Thorpe with the Superintendent’s Coin of Excellence and his induction plaque as the 2026 Buffalo School District Wall of Fame Inductee—presented to him today in Brush, Colorado.

This recognition is a testament to a lifetime of impact—on our school, our students, and the Merino community. Mr. Thorpe’s legacy goes far beyond titles. He is a mentor, a leader, and a man who helped shape generations through his commitment to excellence, hard work, and relationships.

This well-deserved honor was made possible through the nomination and support of Jessica Morell, Scot Wahlert, Lari Mertens, Dale Van De Weghe, John Barber, Dave Wolever, Aaron Hettringer, and Jeff Ladd—each sharing powerful reflections on Mr. Thorpe’s influence.

Jessica Morell spoke to the lasting presence of Mr. Thorpe in the community—how his influence continues through generations of coaches, athletes, and families, and how his name has long stood for respect and excellence.

Scot Wahlert highlighted Mr. Thorpe’s leadership and work ethic, emphasizing that while he built champions on the mat, the lessons learned shaped young men into successful adults.

Lari Mertens shared how Mr. Thorpe’s fairness and belief in all students helped mold not only better athletes, but better teammates and individuals—impacting life well beyond high school.

Dale Van De Weghe reflected on second chances and accountability, crediting Mr. Thorpe for teaching him perseverance, discipline, and the importance of finishing what you start.

John Barber recognized Mr. Thorpe’s leadership in building the foundation of Merino’s wrestling excellence and his deep care for students and the community, even while holding high expectations.

Dave Wolever pointed to Mr. Thorpe’s broader recognition, including his induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, reinforcing that his impact reaches far beyond our school walls.

Jeff Ladd offered a heartfelt reflection, describing Mr. Thorpe as more than a coach or teacher—but a true mentor who invested personally in his students, building confidence, character, and lifelong success.

Each story reinforces what we already know in Merino—Mr. Thorpe didn’t just teach, coach, or lead… he changed lives.

Congratulations, Mr. Thorpe, and thank you for everything you have given to our Ram Family. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
