Seeking Students, Faculty, and Clinicians for Focus Group

Interprofessional Education Learner Needs Study

Are you an undergraduate or graduate in a health professions program? Or. a health professional? Or, a fellow faculty member?
Do you have opinions about the training needs of students?
If you answered yes to these questions, you may be eligible to participate in an IRB-approved research project. The project is compiling the interprofessional education needs of nutrition and dietetic students.

Did I hear you say, “Please, tell you more”?

Each focus group will last 1 ½ hours
During the focus groups, questions about the roles of health professionals on interprofessional patient care teams
Participants will be asked to review the notes from the focus group to confirm the accuracy of the information documented
After completing those two steps, you will receive a $40 Amazon gift certificate for your participation

We are studying the effects of animated pictures on children's ability to learn and use language. We are looking for children, between the ages of 4 and 8 years old, to participate in one or more of our three studies through Zoom. The results will impact how speech therapists provide therapy to children with developmental disabilities and no functional speech such as autism spectrum disorder. VOLUNTEERS WANTED
FOR A RESEARCH STUDY

The Effects of Environmental Sound and Animation on the Naming Accuracy of Graphic Symbols for Children with and without Developmental Disabilities

Researchers at Idaho State University want to find ways to help kids with disabilities name action words. Research is always voluntary!

Would the study be a good fit for me?
This study is for
• Typically developing children 4 years of age OR
• Children with a disability between 5 and 16 years
o Children with a disability must include autism, Down syndrome, intellectual impairment
• Children who speak English
• No uncorrected hearing or vision difficulties

What would happen if my child took part in the study?
If you decide to have your child take part in the study:
• You would complete a standardized rating scale regarding your child’s communication, daily living skills, socialization, motor skills, and behavior
• Your child would take a test to see if they understand 18 verbs used in the study
• Your child would play a game involving naming to pictures on a computer
• You and your child would be involved in the study for 3 days (Day 1 = 90 minutes; Day 2 = 25 minutes; Day 3 = 25 minutes)

There are benefits to you by taking part in the research
• Receive a copy of your child’s test results and a free copy of the animated graphic symbols for use at home or school

Congrats to alumna Dr. Stacey Shumway Manwaring who received her masters degree in 2000 and is the 2020 Professional Achievement Award recipient for the College of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences.

Dr. Stacy Shumway Manwaring has been named the recipient of the 2020 Idaho State University Professional Achievement Award in the College of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences. She received her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from ISU in 2000.

Manwaring is currently an associate professor and Director of the Early Childhood Communication Lab in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Utah. In addition to teaching, she conducts research aimed at increasing understanding of the developmental course of social communication and language delays in young children with or at-risk for autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Manwaring aims to produce research that is relevant and readily translatable to clinical practice. She presents her work regularly at national and international conferences, and she has several peer-reviewed publications as well as book chapters on this topic.

Prior to her arrival at ISU Manwaring received her B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from Brigham Young. After receiving her degree from Idaho State University, she practiced as a speech-language pathologist for 2 years before attending Florida State University, where she completed her Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2006. Dr. Manwaring joined the faculty at the University of Utah in 2011, after completing a postdoctoral fellowship in the Pediatrics and Developmental Neuroscience Branch of the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

For all of you amazing SLP academics (or related fields) out there, if you are interested in serving as academic faculty in the Speech-Language Pathology Program at Idaho State University (location: Pocatello, ID; application reviews beginning 1/31/19; full-time: 9 month contract; anticipated start date: August, 2020). Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in adult speech, adult language, dysphagia, voice disorders, and autism/social communication disorders. Researchers in the Idaho State University Audiology department are seeking participants for a study involving an iPad-based auditory processing treatment program. Participants must be between the ages of 7 and 14. Interested individuals will be invited to complete an auditory processing evaluation to determine eligibility for the study. Eligible participants will then be offered a 12 week iPad-based therapy program at the Idaho State University campus. The program is being offered free-of-charge in Pocatello and Meridian to those who qualify.
