JUNIOR PROJECTS:
We would like to thank Jennifer DeWitt of VYNYL for leading an Agile workshop with our juniors at the beginning of their project. Jennifer spent the day explaining and implementing the Scrum project management framework. Using practical examples, the workshop helped show how to break down projects into manageable tasks and work through them in an organized way.
We also want to thank Mark Doubleday of VYNYL for letting us use some of the really great photos he took! Thank you both for investing your time in our students!

Our Student Projects will be wrapping up this week, and we will be celebrating with a gnarly skating party and rad Blimpies lunch on Friday! There will be an epic costume contest, with the theme being "80s High School Stereotypes." Think jocks, nerds, preppy, and emo. Each category will have two winners, dude! So get your bodacious outfits on and get ready to have a totally tubular time!
(Parents, this is where you get to SHINE! You know what the cool kids wore in the 80s, so your advice will surely be appreciated! 😁)
MTCHS is proud to honor our School Board member, Larry Andrews, for his twenty years of service on our board. Larry spent several of those years in the position of Vice-Chairman of the Board, and has impacted many of the decisions made that helped us become who we are. Larry's dedication to quality in education, both for MTCHS and for West Ada School District, has been a huge benefit for our school!
In December, the Idaho School Boards Association presented Larry with a certificate recognizing his years of service.
Thank you Larry! We appreciate you!
There will be no school on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

It’s Class Project time! For the next three weeks, your students will be immersed in a focused learning project that will be educational, challenging, innovative, and occasionally even a little fun! Start a conversation with your student about what they're doing!
Freshmen will be learning about that mysterious red planet… Mars! The Integrated Mars Project asks questions like how far away is it? What do we know about it? What would life on Mars look like? Should we go there? Students will use their imagination, along with scientific research, math, and technical applications to create a report that explores the distant planet and what kind of technology would be required to travel to Mars!
The Sophomore Project is all about community service. Representatives from organizations like the Idaho Youth Ranch, the Wyakin Foundation, and Challenged Athletes Foundation will be coming to the school to describe the needs their programs address. Students are also traveling to places like the Boise Rescue Mission, the Diaper Bank, and Astegos to lend a hand. Students will then break into teams to discuss community service needs with their peers, and brainstorm solutions to a particular need through the use of technology. Each team will present their solutions to panels of experts from the community.
For the Junior Project, students are participating in the Toshiba ExploraVision National Science Competition. Students will envision future technologies through collaborative brainstorming and research of current science and tech. In the process, they will use SCRUM methodology to demonstrate problem solving, team-based learning, critical thinking, communication skills, and project management skills. Each team will present their technical innovations to a panel of experts from the community.
The Senior Project is about entrepreneurial development. Student teams will come up with business ideas that will utilize technological skills they have learned here at MTCHS. Teams will come up with a business name, a product, solution, or service, and will create a website or app. Students will learn to work together as a team, as well as practice in public speaking, interviewing, research, and development. Each team will pitch their product to a panel of community business leaders.

We received an overwhelming amount of donations and support. Your generosity will help families in need this holiday season. Thank you parents, students, and staff. 🎁♥️
A huge shoutout to Mr. Bodell's first period class of freshman, who single handedly donated 132 food items. To put that into perspective, we asked for 19! That's 695% above and beyond!

In no small part due to Mr. Bodell's class!! Congrats!
Best Decorated
Staff members voted and decided that the class with the Best Decorated basket was.....
Mr. Taylor/Ms. Heesch's Senior Class, the Polar Express train!
..with an honorable mention for Snoopy's doghouse, made by Mr. Bushard's class, which was a very close second.
We had the privilege of donating two baskets to MTCHS families and the rest went to the Meridian Food Bank. A special thanks goes to parents Karen and Brian who volunteered to deliver the baskets. Total weight of food donated to the food bank: 389 pounds! In addition, over $500 was donated for gift cards for perishable food items.
Thank you so much for making someone's holidays a lot brighter!

MTCHS National Honor Society students helped create the "Christmas at Dragon's Keep" tree for this year's Festival of Trees in Boise! They stayed after school making dragon egg ornaments and NHS student Riley worked extra hard on a highly detailed mother dragon that wound around the tree, protecting her nest of babies! The tree won first place and raised $2100 for the fight against cancer! Thank you to the Harvey-Sermon family for including NHS in this project!
