Operating as usual
Tomorrow at noon your NSSLHA officers will be hosting a Zoom advocacy day party! We will guide you through taking action to ensure COVID-19 legislation recognizes the needs of future audiologists, SLPs, and the schools that train them along with promoting workforce diversity in health professions. Let's raise our voices together!
ASHA Advocacy
How exciting! Last year as part of Capital Day NSSLHA students met with lawmakers to advocate for this change!

Insurers now required to cover hearing aid costs for Idaho children The Idaho House Business Committee unanimously passed the proposed rule change on Thursday.
At the ASHA conference in Boston with some of our local members, national members, and students from the Pocatello campus.
Greetings NSSLHA,
We are hosting an informational question and answer session for our members and students who are considering applying to Grad school. Join us this Monday the 11th, in room 507 (in the Counseling hall). The event will be collaborative and informal in nature. We want to provide an opportunity for students to talk with others who have been through the process, to ask questions, and to provide mutual support.
Undergraduate students, please tell your friends and classmates. Juniors, Seniors, Pre-Pros, all are welcome!
Good afternoon NSSLHA members and friends,
Megan Izzo and I are the co-chairs for "Rake Up Boise" this year. Since team registration is fast approaching, we would like to finalize the number of prospective volunteers. This information makes a big difference to our workload because the size of the yard (and trust me, the yards do vary in size!) depends on how many volunteers have registered for our team.
For graduate students, this event can count toward your professional portfolio. For undergraduate and pre-professional students, this event can be listed as recent community service on the CSDCAS portal website for graduate school applications. The more volunteer service, the better your odds of acceptance! Food for thought...
By 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 17th, please send a confirmation email to [email protected] or [email protected] if you can commit, and make sure your name appears in the sign-up sheet on the Google Document. Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PXYpnxyFa-XeVlTKo_kB38H_FWblHRoOp00QjYzoMYo/edit.
If you have any doubts about volunteering on November 10th, it is best not to sign up for this event.
Thank you for your volunteerism. Once we know the final number of volunteers, we can confidently register as a team. Later this month, we will send you additional details about the event, including the resident's address, the start time, and necessary supplies (e.g. gloves, rakes, etc.). If you have any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected]
Sincerely,
Thomas Gonzalez and Megan Izzo
Good evening, NSSLHA members and friends!
We would like you all to know that our ISU-Meridian NSSLHA chapter, for the first time ever in its nine-year history, has reached the gold chapter honors! This accomplishment would not have been possible without the support and participation from you as members and chairs of our events. Your volunteerism and leadership at our advocacy events and fundraisers, as well as your attendance for our special guest lecturers, have taken our chapter to all-new heights. We cannot express our gratitude enough. It truly has been an honor to be a part of this growing organization with former NSSLHA officers Michaela Huntington, Katie Johnson, and Riley Southfield, under the guidance of our advisers, Karrie Cummings Hansen and Mary Van Donsel.
Thank you so much!
Here is to another successful year for our ISU-Meridian NSSLHA chapter!
Sincerely always,
Your 2017-2018 NSSLHA Officers

Greetings, NSSLHA members and friends!
I need your help soon! :)
The Meridian Food Bank has asked for 6-12 volunteers for only an hour at 3:15 pm on Thursday, May 24th. You simply need to wear closed-toe shoes (so no flip flops or sandals) and to bring your positive attitude. Your task is to sort hundreds of food items with fellow volunteers into bags for local teenagers and adults who depend on this food bank for their dietary needs.
Feel free to contact me as I intend to be the chair for the "Backpack Program." If all goes well, the directors of the Meridian Food Bank may be interested in having us volunteer near Thanksgiving and Christmas.
My email is [email protected], and my cell phone is (208) 891-7184. The address of the Meridian Food Bank is 133 W Broadway Ave, Meridian, ID 83642.
The more volunteers, the merrier! Please email, text, or respond to this FaceBook post so that we can count you in!
Thank you, everyone!
Sincerely always,
Thomas GM Gonzalez
Good afternoon, NSSLHA members and friends!
Just wanted to give a BIG thank you to everyone who came out to support fellow students, friends, family, and faculty members at the Graduation Breakfast this morning. If my numbers are correct, there was a turnout of approximately 80 attendees! Thank you so much, Tabitha Syme, Hannah Cassim, Maliea Felton, and Genevieve Ehart for your volunteerism and leadership!
Also, thank you, Lexi Haigh, for giving NSSLHA officers the idea of donating all the empty cartridges near the entrance of our clinic to Staples. You will find that there is slightly more space now for the graduate students and clinical supervisors! The overflowing cart in the image below speaks for itself. ;)
Lastly, tonight at 6:00 pm is the graduation ceremony at the Boise Center downtown. It would be wonderful to see you all there!
Sincerely always,
Your 2017-2018 NSSLHA Officers

Good morning, NSSLHA Members and friends!
Dr. Kristina Blaiser, PhD, CCC-SLP, is recruiting student researchers for her HATCH (Helping Children Talk to Children) lab for the 2018-2019 academic term.
If you are interested in hands-on experience with collecting and analyzing language samples from preschoolers who are hard of hearing, and would like to boost your chances of acceptance into graduate school by distinguishing your application with this coveted experience, please email Dr. Blaiser at [email protected] by Friday, April 20th, 2018.
For me personally, to be part of a team of fellow researchers, to interact with children with hearing loss, and to participate in discussions about research design with a compassionate mentor all have been rewarding experiences. For the researchers who asked, Dr. Blaiser was even so kind as to write a letter of recommendation for them before they applied to graduate school -- to help them stand out as a competitive candidate.
Lastly, you can select the number of credits of research per semester. With my choice of one credit, I spend roughly 3 hours a week on research, and all students have flexibility with their schedules as researchers.
For more information about Dr. Blaiser's HATCH lab, please visit the following website:
https://www.isu.edu/magazine/f2017/in-this-issue/meridan-lab-helps-hatch-a-childs-potential/
Current fellow researchers, please feel free to share your experiences by commenting on this post.
Thank you!
Sincerely always,
Your NSSLHA Officers
