Good Afternoon,

I hope everything is going well. We are literally 6 weeks away from the start of wrestling season. It will be here before we know it. Just a reminder that the mandatory parent meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 18th at 6 p.m at the meeting room at the high school. Please add it to your calendar.

Also, get to work on the calendar fundraiser if not already done so. Get your kids to work on it, take a copy to work ect. All you are doing is getting people to say "I will donate the 20th, I will donate the 5th ect" and they will donate the dollar amount associated with the date. Please be proactive and get working on it. This fundraiser will offload a lot of the burden off of us parents. Thanks everyone.

Good Morning Everyone,

Hard to believe it's almost October. The school year is moving right along. Here is an update to the preseason training schedule. Best on Best Starts Monday October 2nd. Please see the below information from Coach Owens.

Best on Best is training sessions by Coach Chris Owens. He was my college coach and is the State Chair and developmental coach for Idaho USA wrestling. These practices are designed for more advanced wrestlers. Please see below for information regarding those practices. Those practices will be Mondays and Thursdays - 6-730 p.m. Mondays at Mountain View, Thursdays at Meridian. A USA wrestling card is required. That is the insurance piece. It is not mandatory. Coach Briggs will still be running the open mat on Wednesdays at Mountain View. I will reach out to those who I feel would be a good fit for Best on Best, but all would benefit. Again it is an advanced type of training. With that said, I do not want to discourage any of your kids from coming to it. Just keep in mind that a USA wrestling card is required. Link is below.

Mondays- Best on Best 6-730 p.m. MVHS
Tuesdays- Lifting 530 p.m. MVHS
Wednesday- Open Mat 530 p.m.
Thursday- Best on Best Meridian High School/ Lifting MVHS 5:30/ 6:00

Again, please understand that none of these are mandatory, all optional. If nothing else, the open mat on Wednesdays will more than adequately prepare your wrestler for the season. Thank you all, please see below.

Mountain View Wrestling Family. Please help me welcome Jake Briggs. Coach Briggs will be the newest addition to our coaching staff. Coach Briggs has 16 years of experience in the sport. While wrestling, Coach Briggs was a 3X California High School State Placer, NHSCA National Champion, and 3X High School All American. Coach Briggs’s record in high school was 190-30. After high school, Coach Briggs went on to wrestle for Boise State and California State University Bakersfield where he trained with multiple Division 1 All Americans.

After college, Coach Briggs coached at his old high school for 5 years where he coached a team to a section championship. Coach Briggs also coached multiple kids to the state championship where one of his wrestlers was top 12 in the entire state of California in his weight class.

Coach Briggs brings a lot of knowledge, passion, and excitement to the sport and cannot wait to help our student-athletes reach their fullest potential.

It's not too late to get your tickets for the 2022-23 West Ada Activities & Athletics fundraiser.

What is the fundraiser? Each of the activity/athletic programs in our middle and high schools have the opportunity to sell a set amount of $100 tickets. ALL proceeds from this fundraiser and ticket sales stay at the school with the program that makes the ticket sale. So, if a school sells 500 tickets they keep $50,000 for their school programs...WHOA!!!!

What a whirlwind of wrestling, traveling over the last 2 weeks. Shilo Jones followed up his 3rd place finish at NHSCA Nationals, with a 6th place finish at Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls Iowa, and earning his 6th All American honors.

His teammates Dakota Jenkins, Ethan Schmidt, Sophie Sarver, Jen Luc Guerra, Guiseppe Guerra, Greysen Dormier, Jaron Moore and Aiden McGinnis went south to Reno and wrestled in this year's Reno Worlds National Championship. All wrestled well, completed, and showed one thing. That they are getting better. Results:

The dedication and energy from wrestling coaches is unmatched in any other sport. Keeping track of 30+ athletes, competing on multiple mats, some times in multiple gyms, at any given time in the day...sharing motivation, knowledge, heartbreak and success.
Huge thanks to all the coaches, the small village, it takes to have a successful team...and then still folding laundry while in your corner.

And that’s a wrap for the 2022-2023 Season. Mountain View had one of their best seasons in over a decade. 14 wrestlers qualified for State. 7 Athletes made it to the podium. But more than the the stats, this team had a bond that makes the season memorable. Thanks to the coaches and athletes for a great season.

Districts is a bitter sweet time for all teams. It can mean the end of a season for some, the end of a career for others..and for a small few one more week of competition.
Mountain View showed up to the 5A SIC district tournament with heart. Every competitor gave it their all and left all on the mat.
