As we prepare to welcome students and staff back for the 2026–27 school year, the West Ada School District Board of Trustees came together to discuss several topics that directly impact our schools, families, and community.
The meeting began on a welcoming note with the introduction of Diane Escandon, Principal of Cecil D. Andrus Elementary School. We’re excited to have her leadership at Andrus and wish her and the school community a wonderful year
ahead.
The Board heard an update on Summer School, providing an opportunity to look at how West Ada supports students with learning opportunities outside the traditional school year.
One of the key conversations of the evening focused on intentional device use and screen time in our schools. Technology can be a valuable tool for learning, but how and when it is used matters. The discussion focused on being thoughtful and purposeful about technology in the classroom while keeping student learning, engagement, and meaningful interaction at the center.
With the first day of school approaching, several important back-to-school items
were on the agenda. These included 2026–27 bus routes, updated student and
parent handbooks for elementary, middleand high schools, and the Activities &
Athletics Handbook.
