๐ Playdough: More Than Just Play! ๐๐
At Carriage House Day Care Center, Inc., playdough is one of those simple, hands-on activities that provides BIG learning opportunities!
As children roll, squish, pinch, press, cut, and create, they are building skills that support their development in so many ways:
โจ Fine Motor Skills โ Strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers helps prepare children for writing, cutting, buttoning, and other everyday tasks.
๐๏ธ Pre-Writing Skills โ Rolling and shaping playdough develops hand strength and coordination needed for holding and controlling a pencil.
๐ง Problem-Solving & Cognitive Skills โ Children plan, experiment, make choices, and figure out how to create the things they imagine.
๐จ Creativity & Imagination โ A ball of playdough can become anything a child dreams upโfrom animals and food to people and imaginary worlds!
๐ฌ Language & Social Development โ Creating together encourages children to talk, share ideas, take turns, and learn from one another.
๐ Sensory & Emotional Benefits โ The hands-on, repetitive motions of squishing and molding can be calming while giving children an opportunity to explore texture and sensation.
At Carriage House, play is purposeful learning. What may look like โjust playing with playdoughโ is actually children strengthening their hands, developing their minds, expressing their creativity, and building important skills for life and school. โค๏ธ
Because when children play, they learnโand when they learn through play, they grow! ๐
