Founded in 1893 in southern Pennsylvania, Mercersburg Academy is a coed boarding and day school for grades 9-12 and one-year postgraduates. Our 300-acre campus is home to 452 students from across the country and around the world who benefit from 150 academic courses, 26 varsity sports teams, a robust arts program, a robotics program, two senior capstone programs, an outdoor education program, a gl

obal travel program, 30+ student clubs, and other offerings. Mercersburg believes deeply in our call to "Define Yourself Here," and our faculty and staff foster an environment where students navigate their formative teenage years unfettered but supervised and supported. The result is a transformative education that emphasizes character, intellect, leadership, service, and preparation for college and for life in a global community. We're doing a little Throwback Thursday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Burgin Center for the Arts.

In 2006, the Burgin Center for the Arts officially opened, replacing Boone Hall as the primary arts facility on campus. Itzhak Perlman and the New York City Ballet dancers performed at the opening gala.

As part of Mercersburg's faculty travel award program, School Counselor Bethany Galey '02 was able to plan a trip around Interlaken, Switzerland and Rome, Italy. Having never been to either area, she wanted to experience a challenge, see new things, and live in the moment. Whether it was communicating in a different language or figuring out the public transportation system, the trip did not come without difficulties. However, the most memorable moments came from aspects that did not go as planned.

Bethany returns to campus to share that taking an unexpected detour does not mean you are lost—It is simply a growth opportunity. She encourages everyone to be curious, confident, and flexible as they take on new chapters.
