Machine learning is the science of enabling computers and machines to learn from data and deal with new situations without being explicitly programmed. It has become one of the hot topics in today’s industry because of the wide range of applications and a topic of great interest in academia because of the fast-growing demand in the job market and the potential opportunities. Many tools and applications that we use in our daily life are based on machine learning such as Google’s search engine, Netflix movie recommendation engine, Facebook News Feed, iPhone’s face recognition, and Alexa’s speech recognition.
Machine learning is a multidisciplinary field. Mathematics and statistics form the foundation of machine learning and enable us to develop solutions and algorithms. Furthermore, computer science and engineering empower us to implement solutions and build tools and applications. Despite the great interest in industry and academia, there has not been yet much effort and research to develop machine learning courses for high schools.
The mission of ML School is to create a comprehensive data science and machine learning curriculum for high schools. We believe high school students have the capability and the skills to get familiar with this fascinating and fast-growing field. Our goal is to introduce students to the tools and techniques they need to develop their analytical abilities and analyze large sets of data with applications in industry and daily life. The curriculum will cover the basic but important topics in mathematics, statistics, and computer science to study large datasets, discover pattern and trends in data, and build prediction models.
