Welcome back, STISD family! As we gear up for a new school year, your STISD Police Officers will be out in full force to welcome our students back and keep everyone safe.

We need YOUR help to make drop-off and pick-up safe and smooth for all. Please remember:

In School Zones:
✅ SLOW DOWN - Obey the posted 20 mph school zone speed limit. Fines are higher in a school zone.
✅ PUT THE PHONE DOWN - No texting or handheld use. Eyes on the road, especially with students walking and biking.
✅ STOP for school buses with flashing red lights and extended stop arms - on both sides of the road unless divided by a median.
✅ Watch for children - They can be unpredictable and may dart between cars.
In School Parking Lots & Drop-Off / Pick-Up Lines:
✅ SLOW DOWN to 5-10 mph. Parking lots are busy with students, staff, and parents on foot.
✅ BE PATIENT. Expect longer lines the first few weeks. Plan to leave a few minutes early.

Our goal is a safe, positive start for every student. Our STISD Police Officers will be on campus, in zones, and in parking lots to greet students, direct traffic, and answer any questions.

Today, the STISD PD was honored to participate in the annual Speedy Memorial 5k in Mission Tx, a celebration that recognizes the extraordinary courage of fallen Mission PD Corporal Jose “Speedy” Espericueta, who gave his life in the line of duty on June 20, 2019. This inspiring run raises vital funds for scholarships that support the children of first responders from the RGV. Over the past six years, the Speedy Memorial Foundation has awarded an impressive $140k in scholarships to college-bound students, and we are proud to have played a role in furthering this remarkable mission. Today, we pay tribute to the lasting legacy of Speedy and all law enforcement officers from the RGV who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community.

May 10-16, 2026 is a time to recognize the extraordinary courage and commitment of law enforcement officers who have given their lives in service to others. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week surrounding it as National Police Week. This week, we honor the memories of law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and we celebrate their unwavering dedication to protecting and serving their communities. Our STISD Police Officers will wear mourning bands over their badges as a symbol of respect and solidarity. The RGV community pays tribute to the officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and to their families, who have shown remarkable strength and resilience.
