We are beyond proud of our amazing Pre-K 3 students in Mrs. Bustamante and Ms. Jennie’s class for becoming published authors! 🎉 Their book, The Best Part of Us, is a beautiful reflection of their creativity, confidence, and bright personalities. 💖
Our little learners worked so hard sharing their thoughts and ideas, and seeing their words come to life in a published book is truly something special. This accomplishment is a wonderful reminder that even our youngest students have powerful voices and incredible stories to tell.
Congratulations to all of our students on this unforgettable achievement! 🌟 We are so proud of each and every one of you! 👏📖

All Mercedes Independent School District (MISD) campuses and administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day.
Classes and normal business operations are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

W. B. Travis Elementary School celebrated the amazing educators that impact our students' lives during Teacher Appreciation Week.
The administrative team recognized the staff daily for their dedication to our students and school by providing everyone with a grilled burger lunch, cool treats, a coffee bar to fuel the staff, great gear and a delicious rise & shine breakfast.
A heartfelt thank you also goes out to all the students that brought gifts to their teachers to show their appreciation.

Congratulations to Ms. Griselda Negrete for being selected as the W. B. Travis Elementary 2026 Teacher Of The Year.
Ms. Negrete is a second grade teacher and we would like to thank her for her hard work and dedication to her students and to our school.

Celebrating Excellence in Nursing! 🩺
Mercedes ISD is proud to announce that Irma Martinez, LVN, school nurse at W.B. Travis Elementary School, is this year’s recipient of The DAISY Award, an international honor recognizing nurses for their extraordinary compassion, skill, and commitment to serving others.
Irma was presented with the award by MISD Head Nurse Veronica Bustamante, RN, and Director of Safe Schools Miguel Chacon in recognition of the meaningful impact she continues to make on her campus and throughout the district. The DAISY Award is presented to nurses who go above and beyond in providing exceptional care, with nominations submitted by patients, families, and fellow nurses.
Congratulations to Irma Martinez and all DAISY Award nominees. Thank you for the care, compassion, and support you provide to our school community each day.
