In April of 1969 students from all over California met in Santa Barbara to unify the Chicano student movement it was at this conference that they formulated El Plan De Santa Barbara. About M.E.Ch.A de UC Merced:
We promote our culture through events such as Dia de Los Mu***os and Posadas and we are slowly becoming more politically active in our community. Last year along with other Merced organizations, we co-sponsored the Merced Immigration Forum: Tearing Down the Walls of Ignorance hosted by CVJ4J. Furthermore, membership of M.E.Ch.A. de UC Merced will not be refused to any person based on religion, class, gender, sexuality, nationality, or ethnicity.
