I write to freely express my creative thoughts and connect to others that can even somewhat relate to the emotion of my writing. I write to entertain and make human connections for myself and hopefully one day to others #whyIWrite #ucmwrites @ucmmwp
Happy National Day on Writing!

Why do you write?

Why do I write? I write because I can't not write. I write to communicate something about the experiences of being human, to tell the stories that speak to my homeland and communities, and to attempt to be in conversation with the works of literature that are most meaningful to me.

Absolute huge day UC Merced with Satine Phoenix
She spoke to 2 classes & the public event was a smashing success! Lot of inspiration, creativity & insight was shared. Oh & #DnD

Thank you to UC Merced Merritt Writing Program
& UC Merced Office of Student Involvement for helping make this happen.
The UC Merced Writing Project is a local affiliation of the National Writing Project, which aims to improve writing skills among students as well as the art of teaching writing among educators.

This collaborative program between UC Merced and Merced County school districts is 20 years strong and a form of professional development for educators and students alike. The project has been recently renewed with new leadership in Writing Studies, including UC Merced Merritt Writing Program lecturer Heather Devrick and Global Arts Studies Program, UC Merced faculty members Paul Gibbons and Anne Zanzucchi.
Last night Coffee Bandits several members of UC Merced Merritt Writing Program shared their in progress writings including John Bultena reading from our upcoming "Tuskcracker Threat" release.

Tune in TONIGHT at 7pm ET to find out what it takes to inspire your reader to take action—before even sitting down to write the article.

The inaugural Arts Week hosted by the Global Arts, Media and Writing Studies (GAMWS) Program will hold a writing Collaboratorium sponsored by UC Merced Merritt Writing Program.

The goal of the Conference is to collaborate and celebrate diverse educational and artistic communities by bringing together instructors and students from Merced College, Modesto Junior College, and UC Merced for a day of creative writing pedagogy, inspiration, and opportunity.

A keynote reading will be presented by Aamina Ahmad, former script editor for BBC and ITV, Stegner fellow at Stanford University, and winner of the Peden Prize and Rona Jaffe Writer's Award.
ello MWP Colleagues,

I'm so excited to once again host Jo Ivester, author of The Outskirts of Hope, next month. Attached is her speaker's kit. She will be discussing her upcoming book, Once a Girl, Always a Boy in conjunction with the Women's Programs and LGBTQ Initiatives on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15 at 5:30 pm in the BOBCAT LAIR.

On THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, she will be presenting on The Outskirts of Hope (my Writing 1 class text) in both my Writing 1 classes (11:30 and 1:30 in COB 1 266) and at 3:30-5:20 in a room yet to be announced.

You are all encouraged to invite your students to attend for extra credit. If you send me an email regarding your interest I will have a better idea for the size of the venue needed.
I could use help in securing a room! Dawn Trook's class may be joining mine, which would make around 40 participants, but I want it to be open for all. She is a lively and intriguing speaker and invites questions and discussion from the audience.

Jo not only speaks about her experiences in the Civil Rights movement as a child and racism today, but also about the process of writing, the importance of sharing stories, and how she became a published author.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Pam

This Wednesday at 6pm PST, MWP's John Bultena is hosting a charity stream supporting Project HOPE's .

Project HOPE's efforts provide vital care and aid, globally, since 1958. Their current efforts invlude creating sustainable health systems for Ukrainian refugees.

In addition, they will be joined by Jacob Mundell, who played Erich in the Amazon Prime series, The Expanse season 5. Jacob is a proud member of the LGBTQ community and an actor of disability; he was born missing his left hand.

Bultena's show, Abraxas' Precipice, is a role-playing game actual play of The Expanse RPG by Green Ronin Publishing. Based on the novel and television series, it is a hard sci-fi setting, that extrapolates the trajectory of humanity hundreds of years in the future as they colonize the solar system.

By using their platform and working with Jacob, Abraxas' Precipice hope to raise $1,000. This will be matched as part of the campaign, currently underway.
