Mission Statement

The mission of the high school theatre department is threefold: first, this theatre environment is a place to learn and grow into successful confident adults. The process of putting on a play or student show has the main question of, ”wh

at are we learning?” It is not the end product that determines if a play is successful, but if the process of getting to the end was educational, enjoyable, and productive…that is what determines success in theatre. Second, the theatre staff wants to expose students to many types of theatre so they can grow into well-rounded individuals. Also through this exposure to theatre, the students will be able to make connections to other classes they have throughout the day. Third and finally, the department is committed to putting on productions that showcase many talented people, providing every actor the opportunity to step into a role that will challenge them and make them grow as a person who in the end is more aware of themselves and others. To reach this goal, the theatre department welcomes many artists with different backgrounds and experience levels to become a part of the process and offer theatre experiences in many genres throughout history. The MTEF Excellence in Education Award tour wrapped up this morning at Homestead High School during the staff meeting—always a wonderful way to conclude this special week of celebrating exceptional educators.

In a building filled with outstanding teachers and staff, we were thrilled to honor Theatre Teacher, Director, and Choreographer, Amelia Figg-Franzoi!

Amelia was nominated by numerous colleagues and students for consistently going above and beyond for her students and the Fine Arts Department. She was recognized for her creativity, joyful spirit, sense of humor, inclusivity, and dedication to helping students become leaders. Nominators described her as someone who elevates everyone around her and creates a safe, welcoming space where students can thrive.

Congratulations, "Figg," on this well-deserved honor! Thank you for the incredible impact you make on Homestead and the community!

“The Tempest” is heading to the International Thespian Festival

Congratulations to the members of Homestead High School’s Troupe 4864 who will be the first thespians to represent our community at this year's International Thespian Festival. These outstanding student actors and technicians will spend the week expanding their theatrical toolkits, performing their one act show, attending workshops and masterclasses, auditioning for colleges, and connecting with the next generation of theatre makers....
