As CUW SLP prepares for the Fall 2026 semester, we reflect on the recent recognitions of two of our own faculty. Dr. Heather Pauly, freshly promoted Associate Professor of Speech-Language Pathology, and Dr. Kim Sesing, awarded for Teaching Excellence and Faith and Learning.
Drs. Pauly and Sesing demonstrate dedication to students, scholarship, and academic and clinical excellence (and have the fresh certificates to prove it)- the students of CUW SLP are lucky to have the opportunity to learn from and with them both. 💙🤍💙🤍

Looking for a small, language-rich preschool experience in the North Shore area?

The CUW SLP Child Language and Literacy Center*is enrolling children ages 3–5 for its university-based preschool program on CUW’s Mequon campus.

Children attend Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters. With approximately 8–10 children, the program provides an engaging environment focused on:

• Speech sound development
• Language and social skills
• Early literacy
• Cooperative and pretend play

Each day includes play, circle and story time, small-group learning, snack, music, and plenty of opportunities to communicate and connect.

The preschool is led by CUW speech-language pathology graduate student clinicians under the supervision of licensed speech-language pathologists.

Please note that this is a private preschool program rather than a daycare, and before- and after-care are not available.

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Mikaely Schmitz, EdD, MA, MS, CCC-SLP

She loves a good phoneme, a strong clinical rationale, and absolutely nothing about wet socks.

Dr. Schmitz brings science, heart, creativity, high expectations, and just the right amount of sass to CUW SLP. She is passionate about helping future clinicians learn not only what to do, but how to think, ask better questions, use their resources, and serve clients and families with skill and purpose.

She is emotionally attached to /r/ (and wishes so many SLPs weren't afraid of it!), committed to building the best darn clinical training program in the state, and always willing to celebrate excellent work -preferably over gluten-free custard or great coffee. 💙🤍💙

Just last week we were celebrating the wonder that is Dr. Sesing, our CUW SLP Audiologist, and today at the Concordia University Wisconsin Faculty Summit she was recognized- not once, but twice- for excellence!
Congratulations Dr. Sesing on both the Teaching Excellence and Faith and Learning Awards that those certificates signify. We at CUW SLP could not be more thankful to call Dr. Sesing ours 💙🤍💙

Learning through service, culture, and interprofessional care. 🌎

During CUW’s Belize service experience, students had opportunities to listen, learn, collaborate across disciplines, and apply their developing professional skills within a new cultural context.

Experiences like these extend learning far beyond the classroom. They challenge students to communicate thoughtfully, remain flexible, build relationships, and consider how culture, community, and access shape meaningful care.

We have more Belize moments to share -this is only the beginning of our reflections on the wonderful opportunities and growth.
