Project SEARCH-Menomonie

Project SEARCH prepares adults with disabilities for success in competitive skill-based employment. https://www.projectsearch.us/

This program provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent-living skills to help young people with disabilities to make successful transitions to productive adult life. The Project SEARCH model involves an extensive period of skills training and career exploration, innovative adaptations, long-term job coaching, and continuous feedback from teachers, sk

ills trainers, and employers. As a result, at the completion of the training program, students with disabilities are employed in integrated, complex, and rewarding jobs.

Final transition week... already?!

From financial literacy with WESTconsin Credit Union to tours of the Mabel Tainter and Menomonie Public Library, our interns have been soaking up everything our community has to offer. We even squeezed in mock interviews at Goodwill and prep for our final rotations!

We are so grateful to the local businesses in Menomonie for these experiences. We couldn’t do it without you!

Our food service internships at UW-Stout offer hands-on training in the environments that drive the hospitality industry. Whether it’s mastering the "squeaky clean" standards of a professional kitchen or stocking the fast-paced aisles of a campus market, Project SEARCH interns are gaining the competitive edge they need for the modern workforce.

Our interns have entered their second rotation! They continue to demonstrate impressive growth and dedication. We are so grateful for the collaboration and support from our departments, which make this progress possible!

Our first transition week was packed full of valuable experiences! We practiced interviews with campus departments, volunteered at Feed My People Food Bank, explored Oakwood Mall for potential employers, learned to navigate public transportation, and enjoyed lunch at Ted’s Pizza.

The highlight of the week was visiting Como Zoo, where we attended a zookeeper talk to gain insight on this career field and caring for Arctic Foxes. What a great first transition week!

We kicked off onboarding with a bang! Campus & community exploration, workplace safety training, new staff orientation, and a safety briefing from the university police department!
