We are very excited to have Dr. Diane Soles (Madison College) to provide our keynote address at our 2025 WSA Conference (Friday, Nov. 14 at UW Stout)! She will speak on a topic related to our timely conference theme, "Navigating Change: Resilience & Innovation in Higher Education". Dr. Soles is a Instructor at Madison College, Faculty Partner in the College’s Institute for and Transformational Change, and Facilitator for the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences’ Equity and Inclusion Committee, and Sub-Committee on Professional Development. Since completing her doctorate at UW-Madison in 2005, Dr. Soles has taught sociology to undergraduates at two-year and four-institutions, including UW-Whitewater and Madison College. Her early research focused on , and societies in political transitions in Latin America. Subsequently her work has turned to and in the U.S., specifically and institutional change in and outside the classroom. Awards include, among others, WSA’s Hans O. Mauksch Outstanding Teaching Award (2010); Provost Award for Faculty Excellence, Madison College (2021); and Co-Recipient of League for Innovation in the Community College Innovation of the Year Award for Inclusive in Curriculum (2023).
Register for our conference using the website in our bio! The fee is $35 for faculty and $10 for students. One must be a WSA member to attend the conference (also $35 for faculty and $10 for students.)
If you are also interested in presenting on a research project you are working on, please submit an abstract as well. We'll review it for consideration in one of our many paper sessions. Research may be at any stage for consideration and must include a social science component.

We have a wonderful range of papers ready for Friday, Nov 1 at Carroll University in Waukesha, WI! Topics range from environmental sociology, systems of social support, health, social inequality, and more. We also have a special session on the conference theme, "Social Forces and Responses to Inequality in the 21st Century." Our keynote address will be Robert Kraig, Ph.D. from Citizen Action of Wisconsin. And, we have a professional development workshop available related to teaching about poverty. Come join us. We can't wait to see you again at this year's social science conference, this year at Carroll University in Waukesha, WI, on Friday, November 1. 🤩 This is right around the corner! Grab your abstract and submit it on our website conference page. We are organizing paper sessions around accepted submissions. Some already underway, and seeking more papers, include environmental sociology, teaching, social psychology, crime, political sociology, family & work, women & gender studies, social movements, education, and health & illness among others, plus papers related to this year's theme: "Social Forces and Responses to Inequality in the 21st Century".

It's about a week to go before conference day on Fri, Nov 3! Have you signed up for one of our workshops included with registration?
Dr. Jennifer Dykema, Director of the UW Madison Survey Center, will provide us with a framework for understanding how characteristics of questions affect responses and measurement error. She'll offer practical tips on how to craft survey items and show several "original" and "revised" versions of questions drawn from various disciplines.
Graduate Student Jeff Kroll will host a panel of professionals on what it's like after graduation. They'll share personal experiences from their college days and post graduation, as well as practical advice.
