Medicine Ball Power Jumps

If you train by yourself or with limited equipment this can be a great variation for power development. Mixing it up contrast sets like the one above is another great technique. As always if you have any questions about programming or training reach out 📱

MB Power Jumps

Most people see this exercise commonly used as cardio but not in my gym.

I use it as one of the best ways to increase vertical power especially in athletes.

Take your time and get your feet set just like you’re preparing for the a jump. Don’t forget to take a rest between sets.

Get more powerful = Jump Higher

The hurdle hop and depth jump are some of the best plyometrics for athletes. I’ve come to realize that if the athlete has enough reactive strength we can combine the two.

Why is it great for sprinting?

The ground contact time is as low as possible. That means your foot isn’t on the ground long.

The cyclical motion of your legs is perfect for sprinting. Box jumps don’t achieve the same motion.

Overall, it’s a fantastic exercise!

This is one of my favorite lifts for power development called the “Low Pull”. It’s a variation of the power clean that many people are familiar with. This lift takes the technically difficult catch portion out of the exercise.

It’s great for all level of athletes as long as it’s well programmed.

The combination of plyometrics and power movements is often overlooked for training athletes. With the right programming you can make crazy improvements without taking hours to do plyometrics alone. Try out the combination in today’s video! As always if you’re in need of any fitness or athletic training help reach out.

Building muscle is one of the most over complicated areas of fitness and it boils down to 4 areas.

Volume: Sets x Reps

Intensity: % to 1 Rep Max

Rest: Amount of time between sets.

Recovery: Quality and quantity of food. Quality and quantity of sleep.

Building muscle and gaining strength go hand in hand.

Just because you follow the formula I listed doesn’t mean you will be jacked like a body builder but with hard work you can change how you look. Remember the scale lies and the goal is to be confident with how you look.

Put on muscle and strength for sport or life.

Have a great day and a great workout 🏋️‍♀️

Let’s have a great week everyone! The goal as always to become uncommon among common people. Let’s become elite and separate ourselves from average.

The past few episodes of Coach Joe’s workout of the day have been all tailored towards increasing my modest vertical.

Contrast and Complex training are the keys to increase power. If you play sports or in need of more power in your lifts try it out.

If you haven’t noticed a grunt is required on every lift or jump 😂

Have a great day and a great workout 🏋️‍♂️

Why is power development important?

Strength vs Power has been debated in the personal training and coaching world for years.

It’s been proven time and time again that the more power an athlete produces the better they play.

Why should that be any different for adults. We may not have a field to show our power but we have day to day life.

Athlete or not everyone should be powerful.

Have a great day and a great workout!
