General information

During the internship, SULI students work with a scientist or engineer on a project related to the Laboratory’s research program. At the conclusion of the program, students write a research paper and make a brief presentation on their projects. Students also participate in a program of scientific lectures and tours. Student projects range from solar-cell technology to astrophysics, from cancer drug research to particle physics and accelerator design, and from biocompatibility of medical devices to ultrafast (femtosecond) phenomena.

The STAR program is an eight week summer research internship for aspiring science and mathematics teachers. The program is offered by the California State University in partnership with the US Department of Energy National Research Laboratories, NSF, NASA, federal agencies, and private research organizations.
