Gustav Neuhaus (Born 1847)
Born before electricity was standard, Gustav Neuhaus was a rigorous and deeply respected piano pedagogue. He established the foundational teaching traditions of the family, ensuring that a serious commitment to the instrument would pass to the generations that followed.

Felix Blumenfeld (1863–1931)
The maternal uncle of Heinrich Neuhaus, Felix Blumenfeld was a central figure in modern piano playing. He was a visionary composer, conductor, and teacher at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Far beyond a standard instructor, he shaped the technical and musical foundations of the era's greatest virtuosos, most famously serving as the mentor to Vladimir Horowitz.

Karol Szymanowski (Born 1882)
Born on a wealthy estate, Karol Szymanowski was a cousin on the maternal side of the family. He became one of Poland's most celebrated composers, creating complex, gorgeous classical masterpieces that are performed worldwide to this day.

Heinrich Neuhaus (Born 1888)
Heinrich Neuhaus remains a figure of genuine cult reverence in the musical world. As the true Godfather of piano music, he established the legendary Russian School of Piano at the Moscow Conservatory. His revolutionary teachings completely rejected mere finger mechanics. Instead, he taught a profound philosophy centered on how to sculpt the sound out of the instrument, treating acoustic vibration like a physical medium. Through this unmatched approach to tone and artistry, he personally shaped the musical souls of legendary stage titans like Sviatoslav Richter and Emil Gilels.

Zinaida Pasternak
The family history connects directly with literary history through Zinaida. First married to Heinrich Neuhaus, she later became the wife, confidante, and ultimate muse of the writer Boris Pasternak, inspiring the era that produced the novel Doctor Zhivago.

Stanislav Neuhaus
The son of Heinrich and Zinaida, Stanislav Neuhaus was an exceptionally moving, poetic pianist and a professor who upheld the family's rigorous standards in his classrooms at the Moscow Conservatory.

Stanislav Bunin
The son of Stanislav Neuhaus, Stanislav Bunin represents the modern culmination of this historic powerhouse. His mother, Lyudmila Bunina, was also a brilliant piano pedagogue, created an environment where music was not just practiced, but lived completely. Carrying centuries of deep musical DNA, Stanislav Bunin famously won the Gold Medal at the International Chopin Piano Competition, continuing a rare multi-generational legacy on the global stage.

Piano Petting Zoo! 🎹🐶

The Piano Studio of Alita Lake is offering Summer Piano Petting Zoo Excursions for young children (ages 4 to 10).
Give your child a chance to "pet" a grand piano! They will listen to the rich sound of vibrating strings and enjoy a depth of sound they can feel in their bellies—comparing it directly to a digital instrument.

During this 30-minute session, your child will:
Hear live music and sing a song.
Meet and pet my friendly hypoallergenic assistant dog, Tchaikovsky! 🐾
Learn to identify all the black and white keys.
Touch the gorgeous, lacquered wooden frame.
Look inside to see the tiny hammers and strings at work!

Cost: $35 per child/family.
Dates: June 25 & 26 (Additional appointments available for late June and the first week of July).
