Friendly Hills Middle School Friendly Hills Middle School is part of a tight-knit community in Independent School District 197.

With an emphasis on integrating technology, the arts, and rigorous academics, our students develop skills necessary to achieve their academic goals and become lifelong learners. Teaching strategies target individual learning styles to enhance course content and promote students' critical thinking skills. Incorporating service learning at all grade levels provides real life, hands-on experiences an

• Gifted/Talented specialty courses and academic clustering in all grade levels helps meet the academic needs of all learners.

• Band, Orchestra, and Choir offered in grades 5-8.

Congrats to one of Friendly Hills’ outgoing 8th graders on this huge achievement!

Congratulations to recent Friendly Hills Middle School graduate and incoming Two Rivers High School ninth grader Liam Sahli on winning the national championship in extemporaneous speaking at the National Speech and Debate Association Middle School National Tournament! We are so proud of you, Liam, and grateful for the guidance and support of Coach Ben Geiger. Way to represent School District 197 on the national stage!

Students in Mr. McCormick's 7th grade science classes grew sunflowers from seeds starting in April. The challenge was to explore factors that affect growth and compete for the tallest plants by the end of the school year. Students used various plant care methods, soil preparation, watering, fertilizers, lighting, temperature, etc. A special thanks goes out to Gertens for donating pots and buckets for the project!

Today our 6th graders turned science into a carnival! 🎪

Students in Mr. Hiti and Mr. Mahlstedt’s science classes explored 51 different stations, collecting and analyzing data to test their hypotheses. There were so many creative hands-on experiments and interactive challenges. Thank you to all of our 6th graders and parents for attending the carnival and participating!

Super readers competed in the FHMS Battle of the Books finals today! Teams of 2-5 students worked to read all 20 "Battle Books" between October and May.
