"THE WAR DEPARTMENT "
Her name is Cindy. Our Late friend Don Higgins nicknamed her "Moonbeam ".
However when my Sisters are around I call her "WOMAN!" That always puts them in a tizzy, LOL. She'll play along with the ruse. Drives them nuts!
What are Brothers for? Right?
A little more than 43 years ago some life circumstances took place that put me in the position of being a single Dad with four Children. Irish Twins, beautiful Girls born 10 months apart. A genuine 7 year old Country Boy and a 4 year old Daughter with the singing voice of an angel.
I was a Logger at the time in the Redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains with the goal of raising my Children and never, ever getting married again. Never. Ever!
Apparently the Universe had a different plan.
I had taken my crew of scruffy Loggers out for pizza after work and by sheer Divine Intervention I bumped into a cute Santa Cruz Hippie Chick.
She, as Hippie's do, despised Loggers. I, as a Logger, was not fond of Hippie's.
Here' is this Peace, Love , Dove Hippie totally gutting me about the evils of logging. And there I am in my most cordial way telling her to try wiping her butt with a pine cone.
This went on for a couple of hours. Me, the hard line Logger. And her, this supposed Peaceful Hippie ready to go to WAR in order to save the planet.
I tried fighting my instinctive feelings for her but the truth is she stole my heart that night. I couldn't get her out of my mind.
Against my own hard and fast rule that I never wanted to be in another relationship I gave in and asked her out on a date. To my surprise she accepted. I figured she wasn't finished chewing me out for destroying Mother Earth and welcomed the opportunity to drive a wooden stake through my heart.
I knew how she felt about Loggers, guns and hunting so I took her up in the mountains to go shooting and to have a picnic lunch at my logging tract afterwards. I already knew that despite my adamant stance against getting into a relationship that she was "The One". I was fighting my feelings. There was a battle going on in my mind. I seriously just wanted to get my Children raised and then go fishing and hunting. No more dating. No more Crazy women.
Not wanting to waste my time i figured that if she passed the gun shooting test and touring my logging site there might be a slim chance of going forward. Oh, by the way, I brought my Mother on this first date as well. I trusted my Mom's instincts. (I should have listened to her the last time.) I valued her insights.
The date went positively, absolutely wonderful. Having never shot a gun before the Hippie out shot me. She was in awe of how a logging operation actually worked. And my Mother loved everything about her.
In time we got married in a Redwood Grove on the top of Bear Mountain in the Santa Cruz Redwoods. Cindy raised my, Our, Children as if they were her own. She had a gift for keeping the peace in the Family. Especially between me and the Irish Twins during their "hormone years". She and I have been best friends going on 44 years now. Of course we have our differences but she is always the first one to make Peace. Don't be fooled though. Under that Peaceful exterior is a Warrior. Don't push her to that point.
So there you have it. She is genuinely friendly and easy going which is why I refer to her as "The War Department".
She'll answer to Cindy, Cynthia, Cyn, Moonbeam, and "The War Department". Only I get to call her WOMAN! And that's only to annoy my Sisters when they're around.

Great News! The War Department is back. Back after a bone breaking accident this Summer. Oh how I have missed her. She is the brains behind our little Family Farm operation. After a long and frustrating recovery over the past few months Cindy is finally able to get around on a limited basis. She is able to take back the reins of running the office and most importantly she is responding to the hundreds of emails that have stacked up during her absence.
EMAIL ELDERBERRY ORDERS: Cindy informed me today that she is all caught up on the ELDERBERRY orders that have been placed via EMAIL through the month of September. We are still honoring the KRAZY ELDERBERRY SALE prices and specials that ended on September 30th. Why do Farmers keep trying?
I'd like to begin a discussion on this once I finish up with the Elderberry Harvest and make preparations for the coming Winter. In the meantime maybe give this some thought.

Last Day of our KRAZY SALE.
We packaged up another 115 lbs. of FRESH FROZEN Elderberry's along with another 60 lbs. of DEHYDRATED Elderberry's for this, the final day of the sale.
