RANKIN CO., Miss. (WLBT) - The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is on the scene of an officer-involved shooting in Rankin County.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Walker Drive off of McCullough-McLin Road.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect was struck and taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. The officer was shot at but not struck.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Today is Maundy Thursday. “Maundy” being a shortened form of "mandatum" (Latin), which means “command.”

It was on the Thursday of Christ’s final week before being crucified and resurrected that He said this commandment to His disciples. Jesus and his disciples had just shared what was known as the Last Supper and he was washing their feet when He stated: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (John 13:34).

Christ could've commanded us to do many things as He faced His death. He chose to command us to love others as He loved us. Sacrificially.

Are you loving others as you have been commanded? That's a question for each of our hearts today, Maundy Thursday, as we prepare for Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

BRANDON, Miss. (WLBT) - One person is dead after they were hit and killed by a vehicle in Rankin County.

The incident happened on Highway 471 Thursday night.

Both Brandon police and the coroner responded to the scene.

The victim’s name has not been released.
